Yes adding the name attribute makes all working fine. I didn’t know you had changed that.
And OK I see you reverted that requirement. That is probably better for backwards compatibility. I’ll still make it a habit to add the name attribute.

True at the moment. But see this thread on article snippets for a possible future in which sections may be themeless. Then marking them up this way makes sense.
But if we decide not to pursue this way of working then maybe yes we could hide the pills and (perhaps) link. Will give it some thought.
I’ve now read partly through that thread, with some difficult but interesting concepts. In case you do introduce and use themeless sections, then yes, it probably makes sense, given how it now works, to keep the link (assign sections) next to the theme name. Not sure I fully understand those themeless sections ATM, but will keep reading.
The “pill” note (“in use”) might still be redundant, though ?

Nothing’s decided yet but it’s just a notion whereby you could house unpublished content that you can call into other articles. Such sections could act as silos for content snippets – events, profiles, whatever – that you don’t have to relegate to forms (which are presentation not content) nor have to risk having a discoverable URL.
If a section has no theme, it has no output, therefore the content wouldn’t appear on your site or navigation unless you explicitly ask your templates to grab it as part of other articles in other sections.
The “pill” note (“in use”) might still be redundant, though ?
Yes. We could perhaps hide this if there’s only one theme installed.

Hmm, why do you think the Theme edit panel deserves a special treatment – making the Title required? The title field (the display name) is not required for Sections, Author, Categories, Links, do I forget one ? Just curious.
If omitted, the value in the name field is used.

I don’t know WTF you’re even talking about. The help tip says it’s ‘required’. If that’s wrong then somebody should at least change the help tip. I’m just reporting the confusing inconsistencies, not railroading something through.

Sorry to be snippy. I’m trying to get the Themes doc finished (among many others), which I’ve been working on for over a month now because nobody can decide what/how UI features should be designed, and so I have to keep changing descriptions and images. Give an editor a break.

I don’t mean “you” as “you, Destry” but as generic ‘you’. This helptip is inconsistent or even incorrect, compared to all the other similar items.

Re: Feedback to: Textpattern CMS 4.8.0-beta released
Sorry Destry, the pophelp topic is half wrong: it’s not user required per se but Textpattern requires it internally. The title is auto-created if you don’t supply one, based on the name. If you blank it out, it will be recreated from the name by transforming it to sentence case (ymmv in other languages, never tried).
We could probably drop the ‘(required)’ in the pophelp if you think it causes confusion with the field itself not stating it’s Required.

It should be dropped me thinks, if is not user required. The pop help is only for the end user, not to tell the TXP engine what to do.

Sorry Destry
No apology necessary. I misunderstood Phi, who is generally direct in his statements anyway. I always have to step back and think about them before responding. This one got the better of me. ;)
That I received an unwarranted rant/attack (unrelated subject) from someone in the fediverse today, probably didn’t help with my defenses being up.
I know these things take time to iron out, patience is a virtue, etc. And I don’t help with all my useless input on design/dev ideas.
This 2020 has me in a ‘get it done and over’ mood, I guess.
