Domain registrars
Can anyone recommend a domain registrar? One that doesn’t make me want to claw my own eyes out the way Godaddy does.
Just the thought of having to register or update a domain with their UI gives me the urge to crawl under my desk and sob uncontrollably.

Re: Domain registrars
I was just using it today and I can’t stand that too, but I end up sticking with them because they are the cheapest register with built-in domain privacy that I know of.
If anyone knows of another one, please do let us know.

Re: Domain registrars
Doesn’t have to be the cheapest or have fancy options. Just a simple control panel where I can register, renew and update without suffering through 37 screens of FREE! STUFF! ONLY $0.99/yr [* conditions apply]! ACT NOW!
For the love of god please make it stop.

Hi Zem,
I’m not sure if that is the kind of service you are looking for.
I think this is an Spain company:
I used to use their free DNS service and it was a very good service (considering it was for free).
I still sporadically receive mails from this company telling me that some service will be down for maintenance few hours… that’s good, they keep their customers informed about what’s going on.

1&1 is pretty cheap and usable with a free privacy option (and a free .info domain at times). I switched from GoDaddy last year to them. It is fairly slow, but somewhat faster than GoDaddy.

I use dotster for years now. Not the cheapest but I never had problems with them

Gandi are really good, especially now that their site has been updated. Gandi is the one for you.

Re: Domain registrars
I use register.com . It’s simple and easy and doesn’t take more than 5 minutes each time.

Re: Domain registrars
After a great deal of pain I moved my domains from GoDaddy to moniker and have not regretted it.
The interface is straightforward, without ads, not many graphics. Privacy is $1 a year without complications.
Re value for money, it’s meant for domainers with lots of domains but if you have several domains which you intend to keep, you save a lot by prefunding your account and paying for a few years reg. You might look round for special offers too. I was lucky to get one at the time. It can work out at the same price as Grrrdaddy.
