slow in what way? I see a lot of posts and a lot of alfa users. I would say that the community is steadily expanding.

mary back, nested sections flagged for 4.1, takshaka’s excellent new plugins, wilshire back on one, bastian making hay with mp3, etc etc (you’re ALL beautiful)

I think there is nothing bad about going slow… this is not a fast food… this is good food delivered fast (i took that from a restaurante website but I cant remember which one)!

I am not talking number of post, number of new users (though as on any forums a lot of zero post users…). The slow thing was rather akin to dropping from warp to impulse (trekkies will follow me there…).

Never meant to say the community is not vital, it is and it is still as talented as it was… what we lack is direction and vision. Where are we going ? I loved when Zem posted about Textpattern Elements, at least I started to think something was in the hopper… since then… ?
Some veterans here (Alex, Nils and me) have summed it up here and did a collective post : How to bring txp back on track ? Let’s debate !
Maybe that’ll explain things a little…

Isn’t it like Dean’s direction is missing? Him not originally being a programmer but a bookdesigner is what, imo, has made TXP such a great, creative, versatile tool. He did like a “blogging / cms reinvented” kinda thing – and did it well. Except for the sometimes ultraslow development back in the days when he was the only one developing on TXP core.
Then, he finally sorted out various roles, for Sencer, Kusor, and Zem – and then, since then, he more or less left the party?
So, now we have great programmers, with vision yes, but not (imo) real VISION.
Good development is like a synergetic process. We need both vision and manpower.

Yeah I read that one. But I read it the minute after I posted the above. But anyway, that proves general consensus in the community, about what’s “problematic” on the issue of Textpattern’s future development. Provided there really IS a problem… I’m not sure, as Dean was needed in Textpattern’s childhood. He was the daddy. Now, Textpattern is a grown up late-teen, wanting to go lots of places, and being a bit confused. That said, I think people have become too attached to the idea of NEW NEW NEW. That is, new updates, new features, lalala. Textpattern does what it should do pretty well. Of course certain things are still musthave-features to come, but generally Textpattern is stable, wonderful, flexible.
I think I’ll paste that comment in the other thread as well.
