[wiki] FAQ translation efforts in the wiki?
Just tossing this out there, as the idea just struck me…
Since the FAQ is rapidly becoming the shizzle, what about mimicking it in the wiki for foreign languages? We wouldn’t mimic the English efforts, obviouly, just other languages, and the FAQ languages component could easily be created as a separate set of pages apart from the existing ToC.

…here’s taking the idea one step further…
I mean this in the best of ways: you turkey. ;D I did say. I still think that’s a good direction to take.

Doh! Rightly said, turkey I am. ;) Turkey with short memory too, apparently (from)…

All due lightbulb credit goes to mary. Sincere apologies, mary.
So, I’m certainly all for thinking about this closer…and wish that someone had taken up my suggestion there above to start a thread on it sooner. Nevertheless we’re still at the right point to make the change…and I do like this idea of yours mary.

In fact, I was thinking just last week about translating the FAQ into italian: it’s the first step into the world of TXP.
Just tell me where it should end up, and I’ll start next week!
Ciao!

Re: [wiki] FAQ translation efforts in the wiki?
Getting started would be easy; all we need is a starter page in the wiki from which translators work from. The logical page, point blank, would be a copy of the FAQ home page itself; i.e., the FAQ index list. This page would be the only FAQ page that would be duplicated in English, and from there it would flow like this…
- All English links on this FAQ index page in the wiki would point to the topics themselves in the real FAQ.
- Translators would start by translating the wiki’s FAQ index page first (using existing procedures).
- Translation work would then flow from the respective translated FAQ index pages, and all work would be in foreign languages only at that point, no English.
The rest of the wiki would follow a scheme like mary presented, with some refinement ;)
This is quite exciting for a number of reasons (granted, which I’ve been a bit slow to realize, huh mary?):
- I foresee the translation efforts kicking into higher gear now,
- the wiki itself becomes more focused,
- and the FAQs and wiki become more conceptually integrated, as opposed to separate efforts (the peev I’ve had all along).
Probably a worthy step for me at this juncture is update the concept image in the planning thread so it’s all a bit easier to grasp.
EDIT: OK, image updated as noted above!
EDIT 2: I might suggest that it will not be relevant to translate all sections of the FAQ, only those having to do with Textpattern. For example, there are sections having to do with the Forum, which are obviously out of scope.

A FAQ index page has been started in the wiki for translation efforts…see details here.
