[wiki] [TxB] Translation Information

This topic is for bringing light to TextBook translation efforts. This topic will also be used to make annoucements to active translators, should the need arise.

TextBook Translation Information

Current Languages/LGTs Added

See Current LGTs in wiki. (LGTs, please keep that list up to date.)

Want to translate?

If you want to help with translation efforts under a language that already has an LGT, contact that LGT for a TextBook account. If you want to start working on a language that is not installed or does not currently have an LGT, then contact Destry or hakjoon and indicate which language you want to work on. We’ll add the language (if needed), give you a TextBook account, and you’ll become the LGT by default for that language (please understand the easy commitment).

LGTs: As coordinators in the wiki you all have a voice about wiki activities and TextBook’s development direction. You are encouraged to use that constructive voice whenever you feel necessary to help ensure that we make your roles easier and for the sake of TextBook as a whole.

Re: [wiki] [TxB] Translation Information

Notice to Translators: Wiki Spam

On the 17 November 2005 we upgraded the wiki to the new 1.5 version. As you can see already there are wonderful changes in the left navigation as a benefit of this upgrade, among other good things in store.

One minor setback, however, was a failed carry-over of a settings modification that required requested registration; so for about 4 days the wiki was under spam assault by bogus IP accounts. I blocked all the IPs (lots of them), and removed all the spam I could find on the English pages, but you folks will be needing to check your language equivalents. Sorry. We won’t make this undersight again in the future.

Re: [wiki] [TxB] Translation Information

An FAQ index for translation purposes has been started in the wiki.

The FAQ index page in the wiki will be the only page that is in English, and it’s meant as a starting point for other languages. Workflow would be like so…

 1. Translate the wiki’s FAQ index page first. (how).
 2. Instead of using the English links to the actual FAQ in your translated index page, use wiki link syntax,
[[page title here]]
, to point to the new pages in your respective language, where “page title here” is your translated title of the FAQ article.
 3. Translate the respective FAQ page as it exists in the official FAQ.
 4. You can add a link in your page to the English version of the FAQ article, but it won’t work like doing it as a mirror of an English wiki page; instead you’ll probably just need to add a regular external link at the top or bottom of your page.

Re: [wiki] [TxB] Translation Information

I’ve revised the TextBook Language Support content to better reflect our latest internationalization efforts with the documentation.

Please update the various translated versions of that page as soon as possible. If there’s feedback to be made about the changes, it would be best to add it to the discussion page for that page.

Subversion Docs Retitled

Please note that I have retitled the wiki pages having to do with the different installation via svn docs.

What this means for translators is you need to revise your pages (both text and underlying links) corresponding to Designer and Developer Interests, as well as your Main Page equivalents (if you care to support them, the English version may be dropped).

What this means for everyone is that anywhere you know of — or come acrossed — a link pointing to one of the old pages, please take a moment to correct the link path accordingly. Redirects are in affect so nothing is broken; however, dead pages like this tend to use up unnecessary space so the obsolete pages will be deleted eventually so it’s best to correct the links sooner than later.

You’ll easily know when such a link is wrong by seeing text similar to the following at the top of the destination page: “(Redirected from Repository to Web Server Using Webmin with TextDrive Hosting)” (FYI: The new page for this example is titled Subversion Installation at TextDrive via Webmin.)

When you see such a notice (for a given svn page), go to to Designer and Developer Interests, copy the link path of the newly titled page (correspondingly) and use it to replace the outdated link.
