RSS version update?
I started using RSS more prominently and I noticed that when I add the RSS feed to My Yahoo, the feeds do not show the proper date of posting. I went to check out the feed source and I noticed the RSS in Texpattern is version 0.92. There are also no date of posting in the RSS feed.
Are there plans to updating the RSS version or are there plugins that mods this to add dates?

Re: RSS version update?
Interest is there to solve rss issue….but it is not clear to me what you want?
My rss reader oftenly tell me the rss is corrupted… I though it was just a standard to comply with… I have send the issue to the other post you refer to but it seems it was not what you expected…

Yes, well there is one version of RSS that actually conforms to an existing data standard. RSS 1.0 uses a standard W3C RDF structure for it’s XML. You might consider including it in the next release.

The time stamp problem would be for me also an issue. I get mails from readers, complaining about “new” articles in their readers, when I change something in the article. The are used to get a kind of “article updated” flag an not a completley new article. so some article may appear several times in the reader.

And XML 1.0 isn’t an “existing data standard”?

Frankly, Textpattern’s lack of willingness to be a leader by using RSS 2.0 anyway is shameful. The excuse provided in the FAQ communicates one thing: laziness. I have used several blogging platforms, all of which have chosen to use RSS 2 in one form or another.
Furthermore, the inability to move along, despite more than ample need with the timestamp issue, is huge. It’s almost like RSS is a second thought. Do the devs realize that an RSS feed without proper timestamps ruin the ability of RSS readers to cope. This is not acceptable in today’s day and age.
My advice to Dean and friends, don’t wait for a standard. Do it yourself. Just do it. Use the WordPress model if you need to find a working model. They have millions of blogs all with RSS 2.0 support. And they all work, whether part of a standard or not. Just do it.

Thanks for volunteering. You’ll find a description of what we need in this thread.

Frankly, your posting that has more of a negative impact on preceptions of you than on perceptions of the dev team.

Two lines into your post, and already you’ve flung two insults at the developers. Yes, that’s a very constructive way to go about requesting a change.
The response in the FAQ, to me, makes sense; back when TXP was first being developed, RSS 0.92 was the state of the art. Later, support for Atom was added, but other features and fixes have been given higher priority than upping the RSS version number.

Texpattern generates perfectly good Atom 1.0 feeds.

My advice to you: the version number of a syndication format is an unbelievably insignifcant thing to a large majority of people. Further, Textpattern provides Atom feeds out of the box which have any and all of the features you’d get from RSS 2.0 feeds, so even though TXP uses an “older” version of RSS, there’s no functionality lost.
And if the name and/or version number of a particular part of incorporated technology is more important to you than ensuring that users are provided with functionality, or if you often find yourself so worked up about issues of this sort that you need to jump into a forum and fling insults at developers, then perhaps Textpattern isn’t for you.

Further responses shall be devoid of name-calling and false motive accusations, including “apologies” containing more of the same. Constructive and adult discussion please.

Where’s the fun in that? :(
I do feel, though, that since TXP offers Atom 1.0 out of the box, upping the RSS version number wouldn’t be the most productive use of developer time. If someone wants to submit a patch, that’s a different story, but at the moment there’s not any functionality missing except insofar as the functionality is called “Atom” instead of “RSS”, so I feel like there are other more pressing things to do.
