It isn’t that it is useless, but there are a lot of things that I always thought should be core features that just aren’t available yet. Or removing features in some cases: I wrote a plugin the other day whose sole purpose was to do the same thing as < txp:link_to_home > without generating class=“noline” (I allowed class to be an optional parameter).
I can make a template without using plugins, but it won’t be as useable or as flexible as I would like.

Well I don’t know about you, but I’d leave that open, xhtml transitionnal does not mean bad design either…
One thing I’d regret is that we can’t build 508/WAI compliant templates without some tweaking, like I did for the search form

OK: How about providing two different templates. One with plugin tags (basic plugins) and the other without them.
OR: Is that too much of a hassle?
BTW: I pledged myself in. Thank you all for the effort, Esp: David for the initiation. I’m proud to be part of this.

Re: TXP Template Contest : Starting a Pledge ! Will you sign up ?
Thanks creativesplash :-)
And nice to have you join this !
Well, about providing two different templates one with and one without plugins, I had thought about it but for the sake of clarity, what we could do is have everyone submit his template without plugins on the contest website, and if they want, once the contest is over, make the version with plugins available on his own website (kind of an extended version).
I have taken what has been said so far into account. It seems we have 2 options, since we discarded the 3rd :
1) Do more of a Design contest than a Template contest, that is limit ourselves to CSS submission.
2) Choose an intermediary position, allowing forms and pages to be modified.
<font color=”#666666”>3) Apparently we agree on leaving plugins out of the contest, therefore the “showcase option” is out.</font>
I started writing rules for the contest with option 1 since an agreement seemed to be reached, but it’s in no way a final draft, I am not sure if option 2 is not better.
Thanks for any input/modification/suggestion you might have :-)
CONTEST RULES DRAFT
Rules
- 1. The template has to be released under GNU/GPL only. <font color=”#666666”>(Is this acceptable for you ?)</font>
- 2. All images are not copyright and are free to be used.
- 3. All designs must be the authors own <font color=”#666666”>(That woud exclude ports, I am afraid. That OK ?)</font>
- 4. Enter as many templates as you want but do not submit multiple variations of the same design
- 5. and following : To Be Defined ?
Template Requirements
- 1. Templates musts be submitted as CSS files, using the default page from the textpattern install
<font color=”#666666”>(still open for debate of course). </font> - 2. No plugins, modified pages or forms shall be used, templates aim to work “out of the box” with a fresh txp install
<font color=”#666666”>(Open for debate, of course !)</font> - 3. Templates must display properly in IE, Opera, Safari and Mozilla based browsers
<font color=”#666666”>(here I expect you to help me refine/define : should we add Konqueror or other Mac Navigators I don’t know about ?) </font> - 4. Templates must be built using valid CSS
<font color=”#666666”>(XHTML is not invovled if we don’t allow forms/pages to be edited : Still open for debate !)</font> - 5. Minimum of Pages: a main index page and a page for archives
<font color=”#666666”>(To be defined / refined, just throwing the first things that come to mind. Should this even be set ?) </font>
Dates
- Submissions will be accepted until xxxxxx at xxxx
- Winners will be announced on xxxxx
Voting
- Open voting will begin on xxxxxxx and last until xxxxxx
- One vote per registered member is allowed

I’m in!!! :-)
I’m not sure what txp looks like anymore without the plugins I use (been a while), but it’ll be fun to push for a design solution with minimal extras.
Looking forward to it. :-D

Lisa

That looks pretty much like a Zengarden contest.:)
The last rule then should say:And please don’t send any unfisnished work.:))
How about the use of archive page as well.:)

Re: TXP Template Contest : Starting a Pledge ! Will you sign up ?
Sorry, David, I forgot to pull the unrelated stuff out.
I use the Mercury Styles, so that’s why I didn’t think about readability.
Edited the above.
P.S.: I suppose when the default temlate rule turns true a XHTML 1.0 Transitional Doctype should be agreed on.

No big deal… <del>what’s the Mercury Styles ? I’ll learn something along the way :-)</del>
Dumb me… forgot there was alternate CSS on this forum !
Makes me think the “yellow glory” is not yet back… no big deal, I like Oxygen as default…

Seems we have been posting around each other.
I use Mercury because it has a much more resting effect on my eyes.I had Oxygen as well though before.
