TXP Template Contest : Starting a Pledge ! Will you sign up ?

In the thread coders are nicer than designers, Sivni pointed out the fact that there were many plugins, but very few templates for txp.

Despite his being right on the mark with the poor template effort compared to the ever multiplying plugins, nothing has happened other than new nice templates from Sivni and nice ports from thebombsite (sorry if I missed something, I mostly rely on textpattern.org posted templates here). I myself did not make time for this, I’ll admit to that.

Now that we have some tool to import/export templates, I guess we can start doing some work :)

One way to get this template thing rolling could be a template contest along with 1.0 release, emulation is a nice motivationnal tool ;-p

I am launching a Pledge online on pledgebank :

<blockquote>I will organize a Textpattern template contest but only if 25 textpattern forum members will agree to participate</blockquote>

<del>You can sign up on this page : http://www.pledgebank.com/txptemplateboot
The PIN is 062005 (I did not make this pledge public).
Deadline is June 30th</del>

Will you sign up ?

<font color=“red”>
Edit : Just so there are no confusion : June 30th is just the deadline for pledge signing, NOT of course the deadline to submit your template

Re: TXP Template Contest : Starting a Pledge ! Will you sign up ?

I have no design skills, I would sign up but 25…that’s very optimistic, and June 30th is pretty much round the corner, why not give them a little longer? It’s Summer, it’s hot – people are more likely going out than staying in:)

Any way I would like to help, but I’m interested to hear more about it. How does that import/export tool work exactly and what does it work for? That is what platforms to TXP? Well perhaps I’ll practice first and then join the second “contest” next year :)

Good luck to everyone involved and I hope it provides some nice templates:)

Re: TXP Template Contest : Starting a Pledge ! Will you sign up ?

Well, thanks guys !

:))

Sekkhu, 30th is just the sign up date limit (not the time you get to build your template !) and by experience, if you set a date too far it doesn’t work… 25 might be optimistic but is it worth doing it with 10 templates ? I think there are enough talent around here to get 25 people to build something fairly decent :) I’ll do one myself…

As for the import/export tool, the best is to read the thread and ask questions there, I didn’t dig into that yet…

wel it sounds interesting, it’s just with so many things to think about in making a “theme” for a site it’s all a bit complex. WOuld be nice to see the all-in-one solution so that you simply load the theme like we do with plugins, and it adds a new theme folder to a theme dir. or not. will look into it

I might as well make it number four (five with davidm of course). It’s a very good initiative david!

Re: TXP Template Contest : Starting a Pledge ! Will you sign up ?

sekkhu, I agree things will become easier with the template engine Dean promised us :D

In the meantime, some templates might not take more than a nice CSS, few pages, a few forms. Should be doable :)
The time consuming part is css cross browser compatiblity if you start doing something complex… But templates are generally all-purpose, and straightforward. The nice part is user can tweak CSS, tweak forms, add plugins and luckily we’ll avoid the Kubrick Syndrome :-)

Jelveby, thanks ! Nice to have you onboard :-))

Re: TXP Template Contest : Starting a Pledge ! Will you sign up ?

please – PLEASE no Kubrick…that was one of the things that drove me away from “the otherside” – everything was Kubrick. EVERYTHING. Although Kubrick2 fixes all thsoe issues I believe no inline styles, no hardcode styles and everything is in the css

Re: TXP Template Contest : Starting a Pledge ! Will you sign up ?

I’m volunteer #6.

I should add: while plugins are nice, they shouldn’t “hold up” the design. Only built-in tags please. Then the only question is: up to what revision # (so we’re all on the same base), but that can be decided after its certain the contest will happen.
