Re: XML-RPC for Textpattern - version 1.0 released

Is there anything about having my weblog in a subdirectory that might cause XMLRPCS to have problems? I’m having trouble getting it to work with either ecto or Maredit.

If it isn’t a subdirectory issue, then I’ll see if I can get more details about the errors that are being reported.

Re: XML-RPC for Textpattern - version 1.0 released

ruminator not sure about the sub-domain issue. However you could try domain.tdl/subdomain/textpattern. That might work.

Well that is at least how sub-domains are setup on TD.

Re: XML-RPC for Textpattern - version 1.0 released

Ummm…. I meant subdirectory, not subdomain. In other words, the document root of my site is home/httpd/html/. My blog is in home/httpd/html/blog. Referring the the document root, then my blog resides in /blog and textpattern in /blog/textpattern.

For some reason, XMLRPCS refuses to work with my setup. I can’t retrieve articles, although the categories came through just fine. I’ve been afraid to try posting anything because of the issue with retrieving articles.

When retrieving posts, the following data are returned (using the metaweblog API):

getRecentPosts() error: couldn't retrieve list of recent posts.

Any ideas?

Re: XML-RPC for Textpattern - version 1.0 released

This is what my setup looks like in MarsEdit Scroll all the way to the bottom to see a screen shot.

[removed another evil graphic ~dk]

Does your looks similar besides the extra directory?

Edit: Also linked the image in this thread also.

Re: XML-RPC for Textpattern - version 1.0 released

It was the “article” under Blog ID that was the problem. MarsEdit now will download the posts.

Now I’m wondering why ecto is having problems. Let me tinker a little bit with it and see what I can learn. Thanks! I appreciate the help.

Re: XML-RPC for Textpattern - version 1.0 released

ruminator, as for Ecto, I had the same problem as you. Above it was answered, try using the MovableType API and that is what fixed it for me.

Hope that helps.

Re: XML-RPC for Textpattern - version 1.0 released

Yeah, I had to use the MT API and I found out that there is an “article” section under the weblog name. Then things work correctly!

Wow, that was more convoluted that I expected, but pretty straightforward! Again, thanks for the help.

Re: XML-RPC for Textpattern - version 1.0 released

There still seems to be a problem with the category setting. It isn’t passed to Textpattern from ecto correctly, it seems.

Niloc:

>that it didn’t work for me. Am I overlooking something in Ecto?

Try setting “Blog ID” to article in the account configuration dialogue.

Re: XML-RPC for Textpattern - version 1.0 released

Hi –

This is a great idea, but I’m having trouble even getting it to run. I installed the xmlrpcs.php file in my textpattern root and the xmlrpc.php file in the lib folder, but I am not able to connect. Both Ecto and Mars Edit throw an error when trying to receive the list of articles.

When I first installed this, I was able to connect, but that didn’t last long for some reason.

Now, when I try putting the access point url directly into a browser, I get an xml parse error, like this:

<pre>
Only one top level element is allowed in an XML document. Error processing resource. Line 1, Position 285

<?xml version=“1.0” ?><methodResponse><fault><value><struct><member><name>faultCode</name><value><int>2</int></value></member><member><name>faultString</name><value><string>The method you requested, , was not found.</string></value></member></struct></value></fault></methodResponse><br />
——————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————^
</pre>

Does anybody have an idea where this is going wrong?

Thanks,
Michael

Re: XML-RPC for Textpattern - version 1.0 released

Joey – you can’t. You would need an additional script that would check an email accoout for new posts. This only works with desktop XML-RPC clients.

There is a great tutorial by Jeff Bostick: A Quick & Dirty Guide to Moblog with Textpattern.
