Re: XML-RPC for Textpattern - version 1.0 released

First, THANKS chrismc!

Here are some of the programs that use XML-RPC to post:
Windows:
SharpMT
w.bloggar
zempt
Mac:
ecto
marsedit
Linix:
BloGTK
Gnome Blog Applet

(please, anyone else have more to add, I’m blanking here)

Some of the benefits are:
-being able to compose entries offline, then posting them when you are online or just at a later time.
-saving drafts on your system, whether posted immediately or later
-posting via email (big one here)
which can be done from cellphones, pda’s and other devices.

Those are just some thoughts I have to add to the mix.

And have I said THANKS chrismc!?

p.s. thanks fredb7, I knew there was another one for mac, just couldn’t grab it.

Re: XML-RPC for Textpattern - version 1.0 released

Nice! Thanks.
Eveything text-related works fine so far.

A question:
Is there a way to upload images with MarsEdit/Ecto, etc. ?
Am I missing something or is this not supported?

P.S: starzabove, you can add MarsEdit on mac.

Re: XML-RPC for Textpattern - version 1.0 released

I get a “412 Precondition Failed” error. What does this mean?

Re: XML-RPC for Textpattern - version 1.0 released

@Fredb7 – it’s not possible using the MetaWeblog API method for uploading media files. I had a heap of trouble getting it to even consider working. It’s on the “todo” list for the future. Some clients support FTP uploads – perhaps that’s an option for you?

@Etz Haim – no idea, I can’t say I’ve ever seen that error before. What client are you using? PHP version? Server type, etc?

@Starzabove – Linux has BloGTK and the Gnome Blog Applet (which uses the Blogger API, IIRC, so won’t work with XRT)

Re: XML-RPC for Textpattern - version 1.0 released

My client is JustBlogIt (Firefox extension).

My PHP version is 5.0.3 (Zend Engine v2.0.3) with Zend Extension Manager v1.0.6 and Zend Optimizer v2.5.7, and it is used with mod_php and Apache 2.0.latest.

In a few of words: I’m hosted on TextDrive.

Re: XML-RPC for Textpattern - version 1.0 released

So it sounds like XMLRPC is pretty cool.

Now here’s a question, can one of those programs, like w.bloggar be able to update/maintain content that really exists?

Might be easier for my client to use a program like that to maintain content instead of having to log in and goto the section and article and what not. Or maybe that is the easiest way (which is still not hard by any means and much easier than their current setup). Thanks!

Yes, it can be used to edit content that already exists :)

Re: XML-RPC for Textpattern - version 1.0 released

Oh sweet!!!

Is using a program like that easier than the web based interface… I’m thinking clients now, rich text editing maybe (not sure if they really need it). Hmmm…

Re: XML-RPC for Textpattern - version 1.0 released

I’ve been using XML-RPC 1.0 for a couple days now and have noticed a couple of issues. I’m using MarsEdit though I’m about to go try ecto. I’ve also tried using MarsEdit’s webLog API, MovableType, and a few others, but these still seem to happen…

My main problem is that categories are not retained at all, which messes up a lot of “recent “ style stuff on my site, as well as just not being very cool. The list gets downloaded, but it just doesn’t save the categories you submit.

I think there was something else but I can’t remember it now! I’ll write a post in MarsEdit and draft it, I currently have intermittent internet and it’s killing me

Re: XML-RPC for Textpattern - version 1.0 released

Is there a way to have MarsEdit grab more than one section name? Currently I have it grabbing “article” however I have tried a few different ways to have it grab “articles” and say “about” at the same time but it gives me an error.

Has anyone got that to work? Besides that I have MarsEdit working fine for the last few days.

Also tried Ecto tonight, but I couldn’t find a place to enter the section name, and without that it didn’t work for me. Am I overlooking something in Ecto?

Thanks.

Re: XML-RPC for Textpattern - version 1.0 released

ecto is supposed to show textile previews, but i can’t get mine to work using xml-rpc (the preview. posting works fine). any ideas on why that would be?

Re: XML-RPC for Textpattern - version 1.0 released

@Kenneth: try looking here, on Jon’s blog, if you already haven’t. I think there’s a bug for previewing existing posts with textile, but I haven’t worked out if that’s my bug or one in Ecto…

@Niloc – MarsEdit doesn’t let you do that easily. You’d need to setup another weblog account in MarsEdit (I would think) – a bit convoluted, but it should work.

As for Ecto, It should download all your sections by default. Mine does. I can’t remember how I have it set up though – I might be using the MovableType API.

@Jamiew – have you tried the category bug-fix for the MetaWeblog API, mentioned previously in this thread?

MovableType categories are still an out-standing bug, as there is some inconsistency between clients on how they send the category data.

Re: XML-RPC for Textpattern - version 1.0 released

Chris, thanks. I changed it to MT and it worked fine.

As for MarsEdit I assumed I would have to just add a couple accounts.
