Re: XML-RPC for Textpattern - version 1.0 released

Oh sweet!!!

Is using a program like that easier than the web based interface… I’m thinking clients now, rich text editing maybe (not sure if they really need it). Hmmm…

Re: XML-RPC for Textpattern - version 1.0 released

I’ve been using XML-RPC 1.0 for a couple days now and have noticed a couple of issues. I’m using MarsEdit though I’m about to go try ecto. I’ve also tried using MarsEdit’s webLog API, MovableType, and a few others, but these still seem to happen…

My main problem is that categories are not retained at all, which messes up a lot of “recent “ style stuff on my site, as well as just not being very cool. The list gets downloaded, but it just doesn’t save the categories you submit.

I think there was something else but I can’t remember it now! I’ll write a post in MarsEdit and draft it, I currently have intermittent internet and it’s killing me

Re: XML-RPC for Textpattern - version 1.0 released

Is there a way to have MarsEdit grab more than one section name? Currently I have it grabbing “article” however I have tried a few different ways to have it grab “articles” and say “about” at the same time but it gives me an error.

Has anyone got that to work? Besides that I have MarsEdit working fine for the last few days.

Also tried Ecto tonight, but I couldn’t find a place to enter the section name, and without that it didn’t work for me. Am I overlooking something in Ecto?

Thanks.

ecto is supposed to show textile previews, but i can’t get mine to work using xml-rpc (the preview. posting works fine). any ideas on why that would be?

Re: XML-RPC for Textpattern - version 1.0 released

@Kenneth: try looking here, on Jon’s blog, if you already haven’t. I think there’s a bug for previewing existing posts with textile, but I haven’t worked out if that’s my bug or one in Ecto…

@Niloc – MarsEdit doesn’t let you do that easily. You’d need to setup another weblog account in MarsEdit (I would think) – a bit convoluted, but it should work.

As for Ecto, It should download all your sections by default. Mine does. I can’t remember how I have it set up though – I might be using the MovableType API.

@Jamiew – have you tried the category bug-fix for the MetaWeblog API, mentioned previously in this thread?

MovableType categories are still an out-standing bug, as there is some inconsistency between clients on how they send the category data.

Re: XML-RPC for Textpattern - version 1.0 released

Chris, thanks. I changed it to MT and it worked fine.

As for MarsEdit I assumed I would have to just add a couple accounts.

Re: XML-RPC for Textpattern - version 1.0 released

Is there anything about having my weblog in a subdirectory that might cause XMLRPCS to have problems? I’m having trouble getting it to work with either ecto or Maredit.

If it isn’t a subdirectory issue, then I’ll see if I can get more details about the errors that are being reported.

Re: XML-RPC for Textpattern - version 1.0 released

ruminator not sure about the sub-domain issue. However you could try domain.tdl/subdomain/textpattern. That might work.

Well that is at least how sub-domains are setup on TD.

Re: XML-RPC for Textpattern - version 1.0 released

Ummm…. I meant subdirectory, not subdomain. In other words, the document root of my site is home/httpd/html/. My blog is in home/httpd/html/blog. Referring the the document root, then my blog resides in /blog and textpattern in /blog/textpattern.

For some reason, XMLRPCS refuses to work with my setup. I can’t retrieve articles, although the categories came through just fine. I’ve been afraid to try posting anything because of the issue with retrieving articles.

When retrieving posts, the following data are returned (using the metaweblog API):

getRecentPosts() error: couldn't retrieve list of recent posts.

Any ideas?

Re: XML-RPC for Textpattern - version 1.0 released

This is what my setup looks like in MarsEdit Scroll all the way to the bottom to see a screen shot.

[removed another evil graphic ~dk]

Does your looks similar besides the extra directory?

Edit: Also linked the image in this thread also.

Re: XML-RPC for Textpattern - version 1.0 released

It was the “article” under Blog ID that was the problem. MarsEdit now will download the posts.

Now I’m wondering why ecto is having problems. Let me tinker a little bit with it and see what I can learn. Thanks! I appreciate the help.
