Jason Hoffman on AI - a reading recommendation
Jason Hoffman is one of the founders of our thereabouts – the txp:veterans might remember his name.
I recently came across his essay on “On a Year of Multi-Model Assisted Development”, in which he recounts his experience with AI-assisted software development using three models in parallel, each one applied to their most capable tasks.
Jason scores the three as follows, using terms from the construction trades:
- “Codex is the drywall guy. Fast, reliable, consistent…”
- “Gemini is the surveyor. It covers ground fast…”
- “Claude is the architect. It handles complex briefs…”
I found Jason’s perspective very enlightening and far more nuanced than the terse AI rejection stance I had encountered so far.

Re: Jason Hoffman on AI - a reading recommendation
I have not fully read his report yet, but from the intro, it is obvious it is a report by a person who knows what he’s doing (in terms of coding/programming) and then is able to extract relative valuable assistance from those AI tools.
