Firefox browser goes AI

blog.mozilla.org/en/mozilla/leadership/mozillas-next-chapter-anthony-enzor-demeo-new-ceo/

Firefox will grow from a browser into a broader ecosystem of trusted software. Firefox will remain our anchor. It will evolve into a modern AI browser and support a portfolio of new and trusted software additions.

Another one bites the dust.

Re: Firefox browser goes AI

RIP the last decent browser family on the planet.

P.S. I wonder how many members of the userbase the CEO asked if they actually wanted or needed an AI browser?

Re: Firefox browser goes AI

Ditto, but I require some form of (A) automatic cookie delete and (B) NoScript. Until I find a browser that has plugins for those, I’ll just stick with Firefox and disabling more crap every month.

Re: Firefox browser goes AI

Another sad development this year :-( * 2. Hopefully there will be some ways to block or disabled this.

There are a couple of Firefox forks (Zen Browser, the various *wolf ones,…), hopefully those will offer the required disabling options while keeping full access to the extension community.

This about that new CEO: mamot.fr/@ploum/115730935437271047. I doubt he asked anyone near the user base. (via Michael Tsai)

A list of Firefox alternatives: alternativeto.net/category/browsers/firefox-based/. Zen Browser is quite OK.

I’m not sure as to their validity, but here are some privacy focused test results.

Re: Firefox browser goes AI

Nice roundup of results. Not heard of Mullvad before but it seems to have the most green ticks, so I’m just trying it. Seems okay from a cursory development perspective.

Re: Firefox browser goes AI

Mullvad has the best look-and-feel on that test-results page. My review after half an hour:

Pros:
  • It has a PPA available, so my Debian-based system will install and maintain it to the most recent version.
  • NoScript and uBlock are both provided by default.
Cons:
  • No equivalent to cookie autodelete that I can see; private browsing isn’t exactly the same thing. I bet there’s some way to achieve it, though? Or maybe just install the Firefox extension?
  • It failed to copy over my settings from PPA Firefox (couldn’t find it), but maybe that’s okay; not sure my Firefox settings are all that great anyway.
  • Dark mode doesn’t work.
  • It leaves significant weird empty space around the viewing region (a cm on my monitor) and rounds the corners of the viewing region.

tl;dr: I am pretty likely to switch to Mullvad.

Re: Firefox browser goes AI

Hi guys

In X(twitter) the firefox for webdeveloper account said this:

Something that hasn’t been made clear: Firefox will have an option to completely disable all AI features.

We’ve been calling it the AI kill switch internally. I’m sure it’ll ship with a less murderous name, but that’s how seriously and absolutely we’re taking this.
