Re: Who Does Your Textpattern Hosting?: July 2021 Edition

When Textdrive was being phased out and Joynet was morphing, many of the cool folks went to Webfaction. {Many were also active here on Textpattern forum.). After Webfaction was acquired, many of the cool kids went to Opalstack. Both Textdrive and Webfaction had the coolest of forums and the best of help and support. All three had/have their own barebones UI to managing hosting services,,, but also every powerful once you had grasped the interface, no CPanel crapola “we don’t need no stinkin CPanel”
I consider myself very fortunate that I was reading a Dan Benjamin post the day he was informing us of the availability of lifetime Textdrive accounts. I jumped on board immediately. And have been riding that Web Hosting wave ever since. And that is why I am with Opalstack today. ( I won’t ever consider a hosting service that doesn’t offer full shell access (SSH ) and SFTP).

Anywho that is how I remember my short history of web hosting services ….

PS

WebFaction was a web hosting service that focused on developers, offering features like full shell access and one-click app installs, but it has since been acquired and its services are being shut down. GoDaddy, the parent company that acquired WebFaction, is migrating customers to its standard hosting plans. As a result, many developers are looking for alternatives to WebFaction's unique services, with some former employees launching a new company called Opalstack as an alternative, say djangofriendly.com....

Thank you for the fascinating history lesson!
