Yeah, the Opalstack hosting service is fairly OK. The control panel is a little intimidating at first, and the lingo used a little obscure, but once you get it, the works well.
And as noted, the support team is excellent and fast.
Thanks for the reminder. I’ve heard good things about it.
And as I move away fully out of commercial web stuff, that might be a good fit for some projects.
Thanks!
Non-commercial web hosting was not something I was aware of. Fascinating.

Major Hawkhost fan here. Fantastic support, and I’ve sent some weird requests their way.

Do you mean that textpattern.com is hosted by Opalstack, or did you personally move from Textdrive to Opalstack via Webfaction?

I am familiar with the late Dean Allen and Textdrive, but the connection with Webfaction and Opalstack is new to me…

When Textdrive was being phased out and Joynet was morphing, many of the cool folks went to Webfaction. {Many were also active here on Textpattern forum.). After Webfaction was acquired, many of the cool kids went to Opalstack. Both Textdrive and Webfaction had the coolest of forums and the best of help and support. All three had/have their own barebones UI to managing hosting services,,, but also every powerful once you had grasped the interface, no CPanel crapola “we don’t need no stinkin CPanel”
I consider myself very fortunate that I was reading a Dan Benjamin post the day he was informing us of the availability of lifetime Textdrive accounts. I jumped on board immediately. And have been riding that Web Hosting wave ever since. And that is why I am with Opalstack today. ( I won’t ever consider a hosting service that doesn’t offer full shell access (SSH ) and SFTP).
Anywho that is how I remember my short history of web hosting services ….

PS
WebFaction was a web hosting service that focused on developers, offering features like full shell access and one-click app installs, but it has since been acquired and its services are being shut down. GoDaddy, the parent company that acquired WebFaction, is migrating customers to its standard hosting plans. As a result, many developers are looking for alternatives to WebFaction's unique services, with some former employees launching a new company called Opalstack as an alternative, say djangofriendly.com. --google AI search
