Indeed. The only benefit of minification is going beyond white-space removal/collapsing/… and also remove all redundant HTML/CSS/JS comments that might exist in the source file, before gzipping. pat_speeder does not seem to remove the HTML comments.

The plugin removes all comments if the preference “Support for comments” is set accordingly (see here: https://github.com/cara-tm/pat_speeder/blob/master/pat_speeder.php#L90). I just committed a new version (2.2) with the parameter set to 0 (No) by default (previous plugin versions were confusing).
