rc2 and 1.0

dean, i was just wondering what was keeping rc2 from being released as a package and if it were possible to give us an idea of what’s in store after it – up to the official 1.0. rough timelines would be appreciated but not expected. thanks.

Re: rc2 and 1.0

Indeed, we must be near an RC2?

Re: rc2 and 1.0

My guess would be that the documentation and help files are being worked on.

It will be great when they are done. IMO, I would rather have more of that done at the moment than more features.

Re: rc2 and 1.0

I’m with you Niloc, even though I have been tinkering long enough to have a reasonable idea, docs for newcomers would be great. This forum should be commended for its ability to help new and old hands alike while the docs are being developed. It is a community and has been fundamental in TXPs success. Where else would you see its like?

Re: rc2 and 1.0

I have a theory about the lack of documentation as it relates to the success of the TXP community.

  • Because the documentation is so decentralised, people tend to come here for help.
  • There is always someone around here who is just one or two steps ahead of the pure newbie who is happy to help explain things – a way of repaying the debt, if you will.
  • Both the asker and answerer benefit through the constant rephrasing and active communication of the same concepts.
    • Explaining things to other people helps cement it in your own mind.
    • The same concepts are explained from ever-different angles depending on the specific situation – this also is an aid to understanding for everyone
  • As people participate, whether through answering or asking questions, they steadily advance in their understanding.
  • New users are not only converted to use of the software, but become active participants in the evolving discussion.

Re: rc2 and 1.0

So, while I think it will be good thing in many ways for central documentation to get done, I can see that when it is…

…it might not just be the same around here anymore :)

It will be professional and polished, and easy to use. But the atmosphere around here will change.

Re: rc2 and 1.0

jdueck, I can see your point.

However, as always there are two sides to everything. I think documentation would help things like plugins be built easier.

Either way only time will tell us how things will change.

Re: rc2 and 1.0

I’m definitely not saying I oppose documentation. It will come and that’s inevitable. I’m just saying that the grass is green here too, and people might miss it when we’re on the other side :)

I’ve seen the same pattern in many different unrelated communities, so I don’t think there’s any doubt as to how things will change.

I understand what your saying. I do like both TP and TD communities a lot they way they are.
