Wikipedia re .com, .net and .org.

More interesting, check out Bridle’s text on the .io domain and its colonial infrastructure.

Even privacy conference organizers take Google sponsor money and advertise on Facebook.

Here’s a well-written article in an interesting magazine I wasn’t aware of. This piece talks about how destructive it is to functional communities that use FB to cordinate events.

I love this, Facebook is just ‘communication theater’.

And, getting back to the purpose of this thread, the article mentions Loomio as a more ethical events coordination tool, and Loomio doesn’t even use the .io extension. :)

Nothing shows your love of decentralized software like publishing your essay on Medium. :)

Speaking of which.

I wonder if that means iA Writer can’t integrate now either. Not that I ever used it for that. But that was a big thing for them for a while now.

Re: Decentralized software alternatives

You are right about the adds. I have ABS installed which blocks almost all of them.

Or the built-in ”Reader View” in Safari and its equivalent in Firefox (Microsoft Edge also has a similar reader).

The author wrote as coda: This is easily solvable: I’ll get a watch. It definitely won’t be a smart one. Which is just fitting perfectly ( I recently bought a watch, and I don’t walk around with an aways connected ‘smart’ piece of glass).

The whole series is well worth a read. It makes one thing abundantly clear: the whole ”cord-cutting” exercise is not for the average person.

Re: Decentralized software alternatives

Just a side-note that I have removed reliance on Google Fonts API from the default Textpattern public theme that will ship with Textpattern 4.8 (it also means that theme can run offline without any internet connectivity).
