Re: [textpacks] Translating languages strings for Textpattern 4.6
OK, anyone wanting to join the translation project via Crowdin, please use this link

This is looking very nice! Especially the extra option of a quick view on other languages! And the funny, but often way off, automatic translations too. So is this the place to continue maintaining the translation now, instead of Github?

@kees
You can use either tool for now, GitHub or Crowdin – I will make sure they stay in sync. But yes, Crowdin will be the primary place to do translations, because the tools within are really good. Really liking this service.
I will add the Textpattern inline help docs eventually too, for if people want to translate those (at the moment they are only available in English in the RPC, because the help in other languages were not maintained very well in the past).
Eventually I’d hope we could create something with the Crowdin API that bolts into Textpattern itself, in the way out RPC server currently does.

Thanks Phil. Also, it’s much easier to review and refine my earlier translations here. Some dating way back from the first days of the RPC server. Bringing the help translations here is a good idea. These are not complete for .nl

I’m still working on the Greek translation. Does anybody with knowledge of wp know if there is a greek textpack and where I could find it? I am straggling with some terms which I hope that wp would have them sorted.

Re: [textpacks] Translating languages strings for Textpattern 4.6
In the english text pack, I think that this might need some improvement: “It seems like you are looking for a very common search term, maybe try a more specific phrase than”. Unless of course it is followed by the search term.
Also… “The configuration file could not be found at the expected location <strong>{file}</strong>. Please verify its existence once again.”.
Are we talking about the config.php file here?
And another one:) In the stats I see that 965 words have not been approved. I’m not sure as to that meaning that they are awaiting approval or that they were actually “not approved”.

Re: [textpacks] Translating languages strings for Textpattern 4.6
Hi Yuannis,
The first phrase does indeed have the search term following on from it, so that is fine.
The second phrase is in reference to a missing config.php file.
Crowdin has a feature called contexts where we could write explanations of each string – maybe something for the future (would be quite a few hours work to document over 1200 strings!).
Regarding the unapproved translations, that is just because I need to approve them once written (as a moderator). The process is: translator writes/changes a string, proof-reader checks and then approves.
Please continue as you are so far, great work!

Re: [textpacks] Translating languages strings for Textpattern 4.6
OK, Ive done most of the Greek textpack but I still have some issues with it.
- tags – appears in a number of places – do we only mean txp:tags ? If yes, I think that I should leave it in english
- skins and themes – Maybe we should wait for the translation of those as I can not think of any. I asked a friend in Greece to help but he has no idea
- Format : I need the context for that. Any examples?
- Form code : I need the context for that. Any examples?
- matching your search request . Any examples?
- If section and If category – Are we talking about the tags? (ie
<txp:if_section />). If so, should they be translated. Again, I need the context for that. - Match type – I need the context for this one too
Apologies if there are too many questions

Hi Yiannis. Crowdin has a feature where if you are unsure about a string you can ask a question directly on the string itself (Uli used it when doing German strings earlier). Might be easier to converse through that tool.

Hi Phil,
Sure. Is it the one on the right?

Re: [textpacks] Translating languages strings for Textpattern 4.6
Just need 3 string sin German to complete that translation, if anyone can help:
‘Extension’ (as in file extension)
‘Search files’ (the placeholder text in the search field on file list page)
‘Search articles’ (the placeholder text in the search field on article list page)
Either post here or (preferably) in the German Textpack itself

Confused.
Am I no longer able to simply commit translations to the origin repo but required to use this third-party translation layer instead? Where is the canonical version of strings expected to be?

You can do either – I will make sure they stay in sync. Basically the GitHub repo method is too daunting/complex for a lot of users so I’ve provided another method (which is designed specifically for translation tasks).
They have an API too so maybe one day a dev could link that directly into our project (as a replacement for the RPC). Dunno, up to you since I would not be coding that.
