I’m confused. Neither Ransomware nor the Quake model violates the GPL. Indeed, Ransomware is the only method I’m aware of that permits the sale of software as a product (rather than a service) that doesn’t violate the GPL.

Re: smilies/macros hack/plugin??

I’m halfway inclined to write my own “Smilies” plugin and render this ransomware garbage mute. A simple str_replace and an array would work quite well.

Re: smilies/macros hack/plugin??

does the existing smilies plugin — or any one that might be composed — have a means to keep characters from being transformed into smilies?
e.g. <code>==:)==</code> would just display <code>:)</code> rather than <code><image of smiley></code>

thanks :)

*edit: stuff wasn’t displaying as intended

Re: smilies/macros hack/plugin??

This sort of filtering would integrate very well in to the existing textile class.

Re: smilies/macros hack/plugin??

a macro type of plugin would also be useful for short tags.

for example i could type [img] and I could define a replace with
<img src=”
and then for [/img] it would replace with
” alt=”“ />
(to comply with the xHTML standards).

similarly :) would be replaced by
<img src=”/smilies/smile.gif” alt=”“ />.
Re: smilies/macros hack/plugin??

A plug-in was developed and put up for ransom but I don’t think enough people were interested to reach the target. The site has now been dropped and I’m not aware of anyone else doing one.
