Re: Textpattern [future] admin side - proposals
I’m just in the middle of rewriting my TXP5 default theme CSS with Sass, very impressed so far, thanks for the suggestion aswihart!

Re: Textpattern [future] admin side - proposals
Just a heads-up in case you thought I’d not progressed with this project, here are a couple of screenshots. It’s a loooong way from being finished (going to take me another couple of months at least, due to the sheer scale of the work and other commitments) but it’s inching along. The whole thing is keyboard navigable and responsive too which is nice.

Just a quick thought – when playing with layout options, you should try with a long site name (‘My Site’ is pretty short), and long article titles.

@Philippe
Yes, that’s something I’ve been considering already – long article titles are not an issue (there’s nowhere currently in the theme that they are non-fluid. The site name in the top bar was is an issue at thinner screen widths – my current solution is to truncate the site name with ellipsis using CSS (exactly the same as how they have solved the same problem in WordPress v3.3 by the way).

Re: Textpattern [future] admin side - proposals
@ Phil – yeah, that was the kind of thing I was thinking, and what I use on my side, without the js.
ps the js is missing for your textpage, but I got the idea anyway.

Re: Textpattern [future] admin side - proposals
I managed to do it without js in the end – purely CSS – means Firefox < v3.5 won’t work by I can live with that.
I’ve just removed the old js link, thanks for spotting it.

Re: Textpattern [future] admin side - proposals
The only other sticking point I can see is if people add more tabs via a plugin. Not an issue at screen sizes < 480px as we are using a <select>
as navigation, and not really an issue at wide screen sizes > 1024px as we will have extra width available, it’s that sweet spot in the middle where I’ve not put a solution in place yet.
Maybe some sort of overflow system to show tabs that don’t fit onto the menu, I’ll have to investigate. Any suggestions welcome. The original admin templates did not have a satisfactory solution to this problem either.
Update…
I’ve found a possible solution, will test it out.

Re: Textpattern [future] admin side - proposals
I propose that we rename this thread Textpattern [future] admin-side proposals (in fact I’ll do it if I have the pouvoir).
A small comment regarding the presentation in the 4.6 dev work (I’m not current with the nightlies, so forgive me)..
I think the gray borders around widget blocks are a little busy; adding too many lines, and the resulting padding takes up precious space…
I realize having nothing at all, like it’s been in the past, leaves blocks floating too much, so what about just a single line between them, like below. Note in this case there’s no padding on the widget boxes either, the controls go right up to the column edges, which buys a little more space for text boxes…
Taking this a step further you could try making the divider lines faded on each end to give them the effect of being slightly shorter, thus making them stand out from textfields a bit better, but I don’t have the skeelz to do that in my graphic. :/
Just a thought.

Can do. The boxes were a temporary measure anyway.
