Best 'reblog' solution for TextPattern ?

I have seen a few feed aggregator plugins and even an attempt at reblog for Textpattern. Does anyone have experience ‘reblogging’ or news aggregation with Textpattern to recommend a solution?

Thanks,

Mark

asv_tumblelog is the plug-in to use for feed reblogging. Pretty rough, no maintenance but once setup asv_tumblelog does the job.

The other interface in Textpattern to consider is XML-RPC. There are plenty of software applications which send articles via XML-RPC to blogs. You have to try which one works best. Some solutions have problems with TXP sections as they are optimized for other blogging platforms.

Re: Best 'reblog' solution for TextPattern ?

I don’t know if I was using the right term when I mentioned reblogging.

I really want to do news aggregation, pulling from multiple RSS feeds and aggregating them into a Textpattern instance. Rather than just republishing RSS feeds, I would like to automatically create articles from the external content and the ‘curate’ the content deciding which I want to publish, and possibly adding some editorial content to the articles.

Ideally I’d like to bring the RSS/ATOM content in with full fidelity; markup, images, etc. whatever is in the syndicated content.

It looks like asv_tumblelog http://forum.textpattern.com/viewtopic.php?id=24981 is worth giving a try.

Since it isn’t maintained, I fear I may need to go with a WordPress solution using FeedWordPress which seems to be a well-maintained news aggregator.

Thanks,

Mark

Mark, see scienceblogging.org and scienceseeker.org, both which use Wordpress. (Of course, I’d be interested in how Txp can be used similarly.)

i had trouble setting up asv_tumblelog – the way it works with simplepie just threw errors. there was another plugin like ak_rss which came close, but not the functionality of the original post.

something you can consider: a lot of services work with google reader with the send to button. posterous hooks up with textpattern, and maybe someone can even make textpattern work directly with google reader’s send to.

To me, what they are doing looks very different.

scienceblogging.org looks like a popurls style site.

scienceseeker.org looks more similar to Real Clear Politics, where the articles are chosen.

The first type is all about the aggregation software, the second is about a lot of daily time and effort.
