Re: [contrib] Textpattern Planet

Have been catching up on things, took some time off from the forum.

While maintaining Textpattern CMS Planet, I get to see the activity of the project from afar.

Made the following changes:

  • Updated to SimplePie 1.1.3, on this and all my other sites that use this excellent RSS library. The Textpattern plugin has been updated with some new features.
  • Removed the TextBook feeds, they are huge and activity seems to have slowed. I can’t seem to get the Recent Changes feed to give me 30 days of activity, so the heading would appear with nothing underneath.
  • In it’s place I’ve put developer personal site feeds from wet and Bloke, artagesw doesn’t seem to have an active personal site.
  • I created a section called Contributions, user sites that contribute to the TxP world.
    • thebombsite – themes, on a tear lately.
    • Gocom – plugins, taking it to another level.
    • TXP Builders – custom work.

I remember reading the announcement about TXP Builders, had a time finding the correct URL on the web, which is why I figure it’s a good idea to help these contributors up in the Google search rankings. Should anyone have anybody else I should link to, please let me know.

There’s talk of bringing back TXP Magazine and TXPQ, wish whoever takes on the task good luck.

On a side note, Twitter and Facebook seems to have taken people away from posting to their own sites. How can we promote the usage of projects like Textpattern, when most activity is happening on services? I truly enjoy visiting people’s sites and seeing the little tweaks they make and the posts they write. May we all return to our personal sites one day, they are wanting.

Thanks Bert :-) I was wondering why my site was linked from there, now I know.

Yeah, I’ve never gotten around to setting up and maintaining a personal site or blog, mostly due to the enormous time commitment required. With that in mind, I have just begun a twitter account. if anyone is interested: @artagesw

Re: [contrib] Textpattern Planet

Added Textbook feeds back to TxPlanet, but I still can’t get a full 30 days feed.

I’m using this url: http://textpattern.net/wiki/index.php?title=Special:RecentChanges&days=30&hideminor=0

Right now, I’m getting changes back to November 24, which gives me the last 7 changes. No matter what I try, I can’t seem to go back any further.

Has anybody ever fed from the Wiki and gotten more than what seems like 7 days back?

Edit: I think I’ve mentioned this before but Alex King created a nicer RSS feed for the PunBB forum a while back. Might want to give a try, if you do, please let me know and I’ll update TxPlanet.

Re: [contrib] Textpattern Planet

TXP Planet comes back to life, or at least this thread does.

The Planet site is mobile-friendly, courtesy of Bootstrap and free templates.

Looks good while you’re in the can with only your mobile phone to keep you entertained.

There are 8 feeds on the front page:

  1. Forum – Support forum activity
  2. GitHub – dev commits
  3. Resources – Plugins site
  4. Themes – Feeding from We Love TXP
  5. Tips – Textpattern Tips
  6. Blog – Textpattern Weblog
  7. Mag – TXP Mag
  8. Make – TXP dev blog

Under each feed, there are links to other sites and resources in the Textpattern World.

There is also an Accordion view, I was playing around with collapsible widgets.

The feeds are updated every hour at the top of the hour.

My thanks to Philipp Schilling for the new TXP logo, and steering me towards PT Sans and PT Serif fonts.

Re: [contrib] Textpattern Planet

The TXP Planet site has kept my attention this weekend, I wanted to finish putting the puzzle that is Textpattern together.

Feeds:

On the front page, I display 5 items from each of the RSS feeds, anymore and the page becomes too long. On the Accordion side of TXP Planet, I have it set to display 10 items per feed.

The Resources, Textpattern Tips and TXPQ have only 5 items in their feeds.

Links:

Other than the feeds, I have links to anything that is Textpattern related.

If anyone has any other resources that I may have missed, please let me know.

Design

By trade I am not a designer, I’m a hacker. I’ve tried to do my best in adapting a Bootstrap template and adjusting fonts to fit the Textpattern style.

Please let me know if I can make any improvements, adjustments, etc.

Re: [contrib] Textpattern Planet

Nothing really design related, but I’d like to cherry pick some of the contents easier. E.g.: I know the developers’ names, the active forum topics and could hide these and some more. Content related classes (.forum, .git, .dev etc) would help in creating a personal CSS sheet. The way Id have to do it now is applying lots and lots of nth-child selectors, and with those everything breaks as soon as you’d add a new element/content block.

If you find the time.

Could you show me an example, of where you’d place the classes in the page’s source code.

What do you use to hide the classes, a browser plugin?

Re: [contrib] Textpattern Planet

@uli, I moved all the external links under the feeds to the bottom of the page. Used to have them on the bottom on the old site, don’t quite remember why I chose to place them with the feeds on the new design.

Re: [contrib] Textpattern Planet

Monday, start of the week, and I was still on the Planet Site.

Here are the feed numbers:

  • Forum – 15
  • GitHub – 20
  • Resources – 5
  • Blog -10
  • Mag – 10
  • We Love TXP – 15
  • Tips – 5
  • Make – 10
  • TXPQ – 4

The Accordion view will show you all the items.

Loving the new fonts, I think that’s what’s kept me focused on the site.
