Shared content across two separate web servers

I was just about ready to publish a major upgrade to an old site of ours Harry Seidler and Associates when the client requested that we develop two versions of the site, each on a separate domain and server. About 80% of the content is common to both sites – all the project information. One site will be dedicated to the architectural practice, and the other site to the late Harry Seidler.

Can anyone provide any suggestions how I might prevent duplicating data entry across the two sites? I’d love a solution which relies on a single TXP installation for the client’s use – all data entry in one place.

Would this approach be of use to me?

Thanks all…

Re: Shared content across two separate web servers

Thanks all.

After a quick squizz, those options appear to be good for sharing the site’s structure and text content, but not the imagery. I have some 600 images which make up the core of the content…

The 2 domains one TXP installation has its merits (nice and simple from my client’s point of view). In describing caveats in the approach, jsoo wrote in the post:

Also, “View Site” and “Preview” links will go from the site URL pref.

Can anyone think of any other ‘gotchas’ before I discuss the solution with my client? All I can think of is SEO penalisation for identical content appearing in more than one place. I was hoping that judicious use of the rel=“canonical” head link might help in this regard (another thing needing investigation)…

Ta.
