Re: Remove CSS Editor

Excellent Jon-Michael. Let’s hope the team take it on-board. :)

Re: Remove CSS Editor

I suggest doing it similar to how tumblr.com does their css updates. otherwise, +1.

I wish it worked better or differently like in a ‘live preview mode”. I think it was a good idea in order to move Textpattern to a larger user base but not sure if the goal was for simple users or for more advanced users.

Was the original intent to make this the primary visual editor for the site for beginners?
Can it be fixed? How much work would it require? If most people that use this are devs, then prob not. But if the goal is to attract more users, then maybe it’s something that needs to be addressed before completely removing it.

Besides, if the old adage “If its not broken, don’t fix it” is true, shouldn’t it be fixed?

I don’t use the editor, but use raw CSS in the styles tab all the time. Please don’t remove that. With rvm_css its a big winner.

I agree.

Re: Remove CSS Editor

This thread is hilarious. 50+ comments agreeing that we should remove a feature that no one uses. Spanning two months. Feels a bit like the US congress.

Re: Remove CSS Editor

I’ve submitted patches before, but they dealt with markup issues I could understand. If I had the PHP chops to submit a patch that would remove the feature (and the base64-encoding), I would.

Re: Remove CSS Editor

If I knew where Jon-Michael’s patch went, I’d implement it. It must have gone to some dev list somewhere on this here Interweb thingy. I’ve either never logged into said list, or have since forgotten the access details for it.

Of course, to save me the trouble of trawling my inbox to find the login, jm could always mail me the patch directly ;-)

Note to self: must… improve… organisation skills…

I even got my confirmation email from txpdev too. Oh, well – it’s here.

EDIT: This patch doesn’t remove the base64 encoding.

Guess I’m not a subscriber. Will have to fix that, eh?! Thanks for the patch link. Copied.

This patch doesn’t remove the base64 encoding.

No worries. That’s a broader change anyway as it involves managing upgrades. Will be looked at separately.
