File upload from visitors side(From front end) in Textpattern.
Dear All,
Accept my Greetings!
For some external user, I am thinking to make them able to upload file from the visitor side. Those user will be authenticated with username and password(I will provide them uname and password or some other technique). After the authentication only, they will be given upload form.
I am thinking to accomplish this but don’t have idea. Is there plugin or any pointers? Please help on this.
Thank you all for the great help again and again.
Sheru

Sheru,
I’ve never tried it but I know Steve/net-carver has made a plugin called Anonymous File Upload:
It’s not publicly available but you can request it here

Sheru,
For protecting your upload page/section/form try ign_password_protect.

Re: File upload from visitors side(From front end) in Textpattern.
Greetings!
Thank you both for for taking time to response my questions. Hope, This will help me to sort out my problem. I will come in touch.
I think, I need both plugin. First I need to authenticate to show the upload page. Only the authecticated user can view upload page. For file upload, would like to use anonymous file upload plugin but how far is this safe and Can this be done using bolth plugins or not?
Once again thank you so much.
Sheru

any particular reason as to why we have to request the plugin from Steve?

I think because it’s Net-Carver’s plug-in – and he realizes that it could be dangerous if not used with the properly.
Unleashing it on the general population might cause some hosting TOS violations and a support nightmare.
I could be wrong – But that’s what I’ve gathered.

Just to explain things a little.
My plugin was originally written for anonymous file uploads, which is potentially different from Sheru’s case. In the anonymous scenario, the site could potentially be abused as a host for the spread of illegal/virused/abusive or pirated materials. The site owner has little control over content unless they act to secure their webserver and moderate first. This could lead to problems if the plugin were used in an uninformed way. Hence my personal distribution of this plugin is via request.
Every request generates an email outlining the dangers and possible courses of action open to the person who installs the plugin. Only if the requester then choses to act on the final instruction in that email will I personally send the plugin to them. I chose this way of doing it as even if someone wants it for a non-anonymous upload use now — they might not use it that way in a future site.
Manfre also has a plugin (mem_form) that allows file uploads — but it’s a form server and you’ll need to write the code to do the integration of the uploaded file into Txp itself.
I’ve also seen requests for adding file-upload capability to zem_contact_reborn, presumably with the intent that the uploaded file becomes an attachment to the outgoing email. Personally I’m not going down that route as that could turn any site using zcr into a virus distribution mechanism. (If someone takes a dislike to you or your site, then they could just use your contact form to send you an innocent looking file with a payload.)
It’s potentially a sticky area but I hope that clarifies a few things.

Could you guide me on this? I will try for this but I don’t know it’s complexity.
Thank you so much once again.

Hello, I can’t really help at the moment as you haven’t said what needs to happen with those uploaded files. I suggest you post a more detailed request to the thread for the mem_form plugin including what you want to happen to the files — for example: if they need to be added to Txp’s file’s table and /files directory.
Thank you.
