Re: adi_notes - leave notes for Textpattern users
redbot, thanks for your message.
I didn’t know boy_enduser_docs existed! I did a search through Textpattern Resources before writing adi_notes but I only found ajw_public_notepad. I haven’t been able to find a forum thread for boy_enduser_docs either.
I’ve just tried to install it in TXP 4.0.5 and it throws up an error on every admin screen:
A problem occured while loading the plugin: tame_enduser_docs -> User_Warning: Table 'textpattern.txp_boy_enduser_docs' doesn't exist
SELECT title,content FROM txp_boy_enduser_docs order by id
textpattern/lib/txplib_misc.php(534) : eval()'d code:46 getRows() on line 84
textpattern/lib/txplib_db.php:84 trigger_error()
textpattern/lib/txplib_db.php:271 safe_query()
textpattern/lib/txplib_misc.php(534) : eval()'d code:46 getRows()
textpattern/lib/txplib_misc.php(534) : eval()'d code:15 boy_enduser_docs_prefs()
textpattern/lib/txplib_misc.php:534 eval()
textpattern/index.php:89 load_plugins()
and it doesn’t install properly.
But to answer your question about the differences:adi_notesprovides three tabs of notes (Content, Presentation & Admin),boy_enduser_docsseems to supply only one (under Content)adi_notessupports Textile whereasboy_enduser_docssupports TinyMCEboy_enduser_docshas style sheet support, whereasadi_notesuses the standard TXP Admin style
Other than that, I can’t tell you any more because I can’t get it to work.

Re: adi_notes - leave notes for Textpattern users
Adi,
yes you are right, boy_enduser probably needs some tweaking to work.
FYI I use an old version of tame_enduser_docs (the previous name of the plugin) which I modified a little once and then copied every time ( I don’t remember now, but there were necessary only little modifications).
Anyway, do you plan to add tiny_mce support (I don’t care about the possibility to add a stylesheet)?
I’m asking this just for curiosity, it’s not a formal request cos for my minimal needs tame_enduser will suffice.
Thank you.
edit I can’t check now but I think boy_enduser doesn’t support textile so the two plugins are not in direct competition

No promises, but I’ll put it on my list.

Thank you Adi, but don’t spend too much time on it. As I said in my edited previous post
I think boy_enduser doesn’t support textile so the two plugins are not in direct competition.
Anyway if you manage to add this functionality I will be happy to give your plugin a try.

Implemented in version 0.3 – thanks for the suggestion, I like it a lot.

Re: adi_notes - leave notes for Textpattern users
Great plugin, thanks!
I just came across it for the first time and was wondering if it could be modified to allow notes that would appear only under specific sub-tabs e.g. the Write tab.
I have been using unused fields such as keywords or excerpt to post short instructions, but sometimes that’s not possible.

As far as adi_notes goes, I think the answer is probably no. It’s really designed to be a tab that sits under a parent tab.

Very cunning! I can see how it would be useful. It’s given me an idea. Leave it with me …

Re: adi_notes - leave notes for Textpattern users
A tangent thought — with the new plug-able Admin interface available in the svn, would it be possible to create a “stickie notes” plugin? Something that would put a link “add a note” on each page, (or using preferences, on certain pages?). And then diplay whatever notes are added? Getting a bit more exotic, perhaps tie visibility to user permission levels?
Just a non-coder throwing out an idea. fwiw :)

Mike, thanks, that’s the sort of thing I was thinking about. Will need to have a play …

Adi
I saw your email yesterday as I was flying in and out of my office. Today when I went to read and answer it, it was gone (Very strange — I even flagged it for a reply). Please feel free to resend it. Sorry for the inconvenience

Re: adi_notes - leave notes for Textpattern users
Version 1.0 released. See post #1 for details & download.
Please take note of the upgrade instructions. Take an independent copy of your notes before performing upgrade – just in case!
Some major enhancements:
- Footnotes – ability to add notes into all TXP admin pages
- Public/Private notes – public notes visible to all, private notes only for individual users
- “In situ” editing – no need to visit extensions tab to edit notes
Textpattern 4.0.9 dev users: I’m working on enhancements to adi_notes that’ll provide tooltips for edit fields – e.g. when you hover over a field name, such as Title or Body, a note will appear. If anyone wants to have a play with this then give me a shout.
Let me know how you get on.

Re: adi_notes - leave notes for Textpattern users
Hi Adi. Like the enhancements. Very nice.
I have one minor problem. I am running with an SVN version of TXP.
Installing the latest version of your plug-in adds an “Option” option under the existing “Help” and “Edit” options on the plug-in listing page. When I click on this I get the following notice:-
Notice: Undefined variable: message in /home/content/l/e/v/levikensing/html/textpattern/lib/txplib_misc.php(580) : eval()’d code on line 308
Other than that it seems to be working just fine.

By “an SVN version” I assume you mean a dev version of 4.0.9? The plugin contains code to add the Options link but I haven’t quite figured out how to get it to put the admin stuff (install/uninstall) in Options for 4.0.9 and in Extensions for 4.0.8 & below. Software support excuse #27: “The error message is expected behaviour”. Sorry, I should’ve mentioned this in the upgrade instructions.

Re: adi_notes - leave notes for Textpattern users
OK no problem. As I mentioned the plug-in is working just fine, it’s only the new “Options” that seems to have a problem with that notice. I should mention that the “admin stuff” does appear when clicking on “Options” but with that notice at the top of the page and getting in the way it throws the page design out.
I’ll leave you to work on that. :)

Re: adi_notes - leave notes for Textpattern users
Hi Adi,
do you have any quick hack to make the notes on “Notes” tab to be editable by any user?
Currently, plugin help says that they just can be edited by Admin users (and also stated in plugin help, it seems that an “admin” user, for adi_notes, it’s a user who has “publisher”, “manager” or “designer” privileges).
I’ve tried to fiddle the plugin code, but couldn’t find the way to extend the privileges to Staff Writers.
Thanks.
