Multiple image/file uploads
Since 4.0.7 will have multi-select for images.
I thought I’d post a little dream feature request of my own.
Yes. I know Manfre already has a plugin that uses jquery.multifile to allow multiple image uploads.
but it requires a small patch to TXP and doesn’t allow you to create thumbs or assign categories.
I’m not sure if this could be done without jquery.multifile. In which case, this is obviously just and idea for a plugin.
I’m also not sure this has enough merit to be included in the core.
what I do know is that uploading one image/file at a time is a bit like browsing on dial-up.
It sucks. : )
- 1st one is the images tab by default.
- 2nd is what you get when you click “upload images”
Now back to daydreaming about unicorns and centaurs

While I use and like ebl_upload, I must say your suggestion looks great since it’s more integrated!

yeah, me too. I like it OK. Hoping for an update that will have better thumbnail creation.
Image/File management is about to take a leap forward in 4.0.7 with the multi-select feature.
So you’ll be able to delete/categorize like it’s at least 2005…but you still have to upload like it’s 1999.
It’s seems a shame not to take advantage of the power of jquery in the admin.

I like this.
(lack of) multipe image support bugs the heck out of me and I’m not a fan of the current crop of plugins that do it. So when I’ve finished playing with my new plugin toy, well, you never know if you wish hard enough :-)

Personally I feel that a multi-upload capability – for images and files – should be integrated into the core :-)

Me too. But if bloke is willing to make a rock solid plugin that handles all the necessary features – That would work for me.
It would need to look/act just like it was part of TXP – and not an after thought.
Ideally I’d prefer it to be part of the core. I can’t imagine a type of user it wouldn’t benefit – unless they don’t use images or files.

I agree and if Stef was willing to devote some time to this, I’d be happy to fund development. Perhaps we could pull another quick one as with jm’s image picker ?

Hehe, thanks for the vote of confidence guys. Alas, I’m not in the same league as jm or net-carver. I tend to take too much time over things (mainly because I’m a bit slow!) and if I rush it I’ll shaft it up. Plus the slower dev process gives me time to get used to using the tool, whereby I normally find better ways to do stuff or enhancements that make it into v1.
Sure, it results in feature creep and a slower dev cycle but it’s better out of the box. And once it’s out there, it’s a pig to go back and fix without breaking anything.
I’m also probably not going to be around much over the next month. So if you need it quick, ask jm. He’ll whip up something amazing and decorate it before the undercoat’s dry.
EDIT: fwiw, I’d also like to build in far better image and thumbnail handling/cropping/resizing as mentioned in a few other threads I can’t find right now. Plus of course, the long overdue watermark plugin which is as high (if not higher) on my must-have list for a site I want to do.

Yeah that experience has been sweet! – and that plugin rulz.
I still need to hook jm up with some promised cash monies on that one.
I better go tell him I haven’t forgotten.
I’m still voting for this to make it to the core.
Not that there aren’t 50 zillion great ideas ahead of it.

You’d do a bang-up job none-the-less.

Re: Multiple image/file uploads
He guys,
Getting a multiple file uploader would be so great. Especially if we could select multiple files directly in the file dialog (like SWFobject does). As there is no development in that direction I’ve been trying do it myself though plugin development. But lack of time and lack of programming skills made me fail miserably. During my research, the most promising thing I could find was the Yahoo Uploader (http://www.yahooapis.com/yui/uploader/)
anyone else got time and skill to pull this off?

bloke’s the, man, er… bloke…
+1 for not having to wrestle with fpx_image_import (which is good, but requires you to give users ftp login).
