Re: Rolling Zem's Redirect Pro into Core

Yeah, if Alex doesn’t mind if someone takes over plugin maintenance, then no name change would be needed.

People still don’t know the difference between zem_contact and zem_contact_reborn.

Heh, I hadn’t considered the potential downsides of that naming convention. Thanks for the tip-off. I don’t think I have the time to adopt zem_redirect myself, but I’ll keep your plight in mind for another adopted plugin that I have waiting in the wings.

When it comes to documentation, I only have one question: how does the template tag work? I could puzzle it out by looking at the source again, but I’m really supposed to be working on a site diagram for a client right now…

Somewhat off-topic: Alex also mentioned handing some unreleased projects over to the Textpattern dev team. I vaguely remember an automated anti-spam system being one of the things he was working on, and there’s probably more that he never announced publicly. Would the developers consider tossing these out on the plugin development forum to see if anyone wants to take them on?

That’s a shame. He seemed to be near completion of his new caching plugin. Plus he had one for stats and one for theme import/export.

I would have loved to see that caching one.

That is a bit of a shame, though it’s great that zem_redirect is still available.

asy_jpcache is a good alternative if you don’t need some areas to stay dynamic. It has a few lingering issues, but there are fixes in the plugin’s forum thread.
