need site review on www.spanish.makeupbycelso.com
I’m in the pre-Alpha phase and just need to get some heads up regarding speed. I still have two sections left to finish, products and tips, and I should have the page navigation done so they all look similar.
If you have any suggestions now would be a great time to send them my way.

It’s the slowest site I’ve seen for a long time. The images slow it down but there’s something else wrong because the runtime and query time are 3 or 4 seconds each when they should be under .1 seconds each. Someone else may be able to help you diagnose what is the cause.

I’m confused.
Regarding the layout it works with displaying the text and everything. But what’s up with that footer? It’s 140px or something with only a copyright notice.

Hey Obeewan,
It’s all encombant for the type of site but mainly it’s a zine. I’ve yet to finalize the products, gallery and tips pages, but the basic premise is creating a basic CMS for an online zine that will have blogging, media galleries stories as well as products and hopefully a place for Q and A. There are similar sites to this one but haven’t really seen one quite like this one as of yet. the biggest obstacle was that it was decided that each section should have it’s own layout, similar to how many magazines do in print, hence I’m using large cover photos for the main story and the other sections have different layouts such as the before and after… My biggest issue at this point was a. the slow download and the b. media gallery, but I’m going to have to do the gallery via plain HTML rather than using textpattern for it. Right now the gallery is being stored in a database and I’m not very fond of this for portability. I’m working on the pages to check the coding as well.
And yes that footer is a bit small still, thank you for reminding me that i need to increase it. The reason the footer is that large is fairly simple -style. I found that tiny little footers are boring. I came across some sites that had these big ass footer and I fell in love with them. I’m enjoy maximizing as much of any space as possible even if it has just one sentence. Since the footer is at the bottom of the page, I decided that it needed just as much attention as the header would have. I’ll be adding cross navigation within the footer as well similar to the navigation in the footer similar to a site index.
Does this help clear up the type of site a bit more? Were you a bit concerned with the different sections?

I’m all for space, air and all that in a layout. And sure, footers on some websites feel a bit compressed and left as something that “just has to be there”. But still, there is space and there is void and for me, that footer is a void. Ofcourse, with some site index type of linkage down there, it might improve in my eyes and taste.
And regarding my confuseness, I might not be the target audience of the site and I might see it clearer when you come closer to a more finalized version.
So keep on designing and we’ll see if this old fart can ever be pleased!
