Commercial Textpattern Templates, anyone?

OK, I need to have a website up and running by 1 January 2008. A pure HTML site is out of the question, so I’m looking for a low or (preferably) no cost CMS solution.

I’ve played around with Joomla! for a bit, and although I like it’s extendibility, I find it too cumbersome for my current needs.

For the time being, I just need a blog-style site that has the ability to create different article sections. Basically, it should just display articles in reverse chronological order. No need for comments, or any of the other typical blog features. Automatic archiving would be nice, though.

However, later I would like to add additional features, such as a forum, photo gallery, and e-commerce.

Assuming Textpattern can do all of that, I’m keen to give it a try. However, just one thing bugs me at the moment: where do I find unbranded, professionally designed, commercial templates? I don’t have the time (or desire) to create one from scratch!

Textgarden has plenty designed by pros. Look in the blog section as well as the commercial section.

Re: Commercial Textpattern Templates, anyone?

Ah, thanks. Will most definitely do!

How about the rest of my post? Based on what I had said, do you think I should be able to accomplish this fairly easily without struggling weeks to find my way around? I’m asking this, because Joomla! has a bit of a steep learning curve. Well, as far as I’m concerned anyway.

i guess it really depends on how extensive you need those additional features. theres a very basic forum plugin (understandably nowhere near anything like phpbb/smf/punbb/vbulletin though). a photo gallery can be easily made within textpattern although its image management still needs a lot of work. as far as e-commerce goes, unless you’re looking for a fairly simple paypal solution then there isn’t a plugin for e-commerce at all really. an unfinished textcommerce is probably the furthest along with an e-commerce solution but its still going to be very basic with only paypal checkout.

not trying to scare you away from textpattern (as i love it and use it for sites all the time) but just giving you an idea of what sort of scope it can handle at least out of the box.

I’m sure that many of the templates at textgarden are more than adequate for my particular needs. However, the free templates all link back to textpattern or the particular designer. I believe in giving credit where it’s due, but – in my opinion – this simply will not look good on a commercial website. I presume these links must remain intact?

As far as commercial templates are concerned, I can’t seem to find them anywhere on the textgarden website…

I should have wrote ‘corporate’, Emile. Re linking back, when you find the one you like why not get in touch with the designer? They may like some credit in another way. Besides, I’ve seen many commercial sites that have small links right at the bottom and they don’t seem out of place.

Thanks for the correction.

I know exactly what you mean. And I’ve never liked them. Guess I’m anal that way :P

:-o

I’m 100% top, but we’re getting off the topic now…

I had a look at the “corporate” designs. Yes, they’re… alright. However, have a look at Joomlashack Professional Joomla Templates to get a better idea of what I’m talking about…

Joomla templates are a bit complex cause they have to take into account Mambots and all other kinds of things. The developers at Joomlashack have been doing this for quite some time, they really know their Mambo templating.

Textpattern on the other hand doesn’t need a whole lot from it’s template, it’s a rather simple process to take a straight XHTML design and port it into Textpattern, it’s what Stuart does at TextGarden.

So I would say, find a nice template that you like and find someone to port it:
Free CSS Templates
Open Designs
