Re: [request] Intergrating this Textile bar?
Some people like live previews. I already found out that Mary and you are not very fond of them, but there were 3 people that liked the idea.
I think there were quite a few people very thankful if you would provide them with your prototype as an admin plugin (small hint for an even better user experience because it is probably targetted at textile newbies: .h1/2/3/4 and .bq should also insert a newline when clicked while the cursor is not at the beginning of the line) including a live preview.

I’m not opposed to the live preview, I just don’t know how it would be implemented.
How would the write tab look with a live preview?

rather big, I think… ;)
Probably this is the reason why it usually is displayed beneath the textarea. I think the best would be a resizable hoverbox for the textarea that is displayed on top/bottom of the browser to allow seeing the preview even if it is bigger than the actual screen. But I really don’t know how to do that in txp. Maybe a button to start the extendes editor could do the trick – including it in the standard write tab seems to be overkill. In my opinion such an editor should not be the default behaviour, because of all the hassle it might cause.

Re: [request] Intergrating this Textile bar?
Hi all, I’m the author of the Control.TextArea library. If someone writes the PHP code for the plugin, I’ll provide any additional features / fixes that the community wants on the JavaScript side (within reason!) and fix any defects that are found. If someone is interested in spearheading that effort please contact me at ryan@livepipe.net , thanks!

What I said was that replacing the current preview mechanism, which is a spam control method, with live preview was not possible at this point, but if anyone could come up with a way to do it I’m listening.

Re: [request] Intergrating this Textile bar?
How did this topic become about live previews?
Anyway I’ve thought of how the Textile Bar could be even more useful. If It let you set you’re own buttons names and their opening and closing tag. So the default set is basic Textile but I could add or remove buttons I want. So if I wanted to give a client a quick way to assign an image with a class of “right” and “shadow” I could make the opening tag “!(right shadow)/images/” and the closing tag “!”. All they need to do is highlight the file name and press the button. Or you could toggle a guided mode that asks you to insert the word you want to wrap in a dialogue box.
I’m sure it just requires a bit of JavaScript to make this.

Re: [request] Intergrating this Textile bar?
Just so everyone knows, the preview is optional. That said, is there any interest on the PHP plugin dev side of getting this to work? I’d gladly work on my end of things and my offer still stands…

I still don’t understand what this does that upm_quicktags doesn’t. Is it just the live preview? If we are thinking of using this for the write tab where would the preview be?
I prototyped this with quicktags a few years back before I wrote hak_textile-tags. It doesn’t live preview but that would be trivial to implment. Some of the code is also implemented as the textile add on to upm_quicktags. Seems to work fine in Safari for me.
That’s very cool. I really think a textile tool bar would be a killer app for all client projects. Plus a way to link to the Textile reference manual.
