I’m not sure it’s fair to say they don’t care. I think they care, but realize that the markup foundation needs fixing before the interface can be addressed in a serious way.

Personally I couldn’t care less about all of the attempts posted here. As stated before, I do like the current txp interface for its subtle, clean and minimalistic look.

But most of all, I’m concerned about the end users. For them txp is simply a tool to accomplish other things and any major overhaul of the interface will only lead to a disruption in their workflow. Most of them have become fairly comfortable with its current look and functionality.

I certainly welcome any improvements to txp’s admin interface — especially the images’ admin — as long as they’re not purely visual. Why not offer skins as an option, so anyone can choose what they like?

I personally think that once the markup is cleaned up (ditch the tables), skins will be a reality. In fact, all the mock-ups posted here – though very decent – won’t matter much because a new stylesheet and some images can make the admin interface look however anyone would like it to look. Whether or not that’s high on the priority list, I don’t know. I’m sure the backend of TXP is priority one for the developers.

Come to think of it, it may be possible to style the admin right now as it is, though I’m not talented enough to undertake such an effort. Just because the admin site is full of tables shouldn’t prevent someone from stying it up as they wish. Just look at MySpace. Some people have done a really great job styling their MySpace page despite the worst nesting of tables I’ve ever seen.

Anyone willing to try just a stylesheet refresh?

There are several stylesheet refreshes earlier on this thread and in previous admin facelift threads, most concentrating on the upper part. Several do require a small hack to txp_head to achieve different menu styling, but things like aarplane’s mock-up and Ace of Dubs’ various iterations that re-arrange components on the screen require more considerable hacking of the files.

I hope that the Textpattern devs could work with him to bring this to reality. This is a fully functional, and clean refresh for the TXP backend. It could use a few tweaks, but I fully support this design.

There’s also some activity by Jon Hicks here. Worth a look and it keeps the subject of an admin facelift alive. The more people aware of the subject the more chances there are for contributions and the like.

actually i dont think its fully functional as the ‘quickpik’ style dropdown menu seems to be purposely left out due to compatibility issues

John Hicks admin skin is very clean, usable, IMO much better than the default admin whose age is
beggining to show more and more.
