Had the same problem. If you hide your side bar, you might also prevent bots from indexing your site properly. The way I went about it is to have the ‘sidebar’ appear after the main body…
ie
<txp:output_form form="head" /><txp:article limit="10" /><txp:output_form form="sidebar" />
. In that way google and other bots read the content before the links.
