Re: Widescreen, a photoblog template

Hello,

I’ve installed widescreen, but am having trouble with the about section. I have created 3 articles and assigned them to the about section. However, when I click on the link for about/contact/purchase, it shows me only the most recent one, and it shows up in the left section where one would write a caption for an image. I am not getting the list of links to the articles for this section, and the body is not appearing where it should. I’ve read through the whole forum, but have not yet seen the answer to this or anyone else even having the same problem.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Brief update:
Accidentally forgot to have this page using the about page. Now I have 1 link on the page for the about section, but the other two links are not showing up.

Update:
It was the time stamp on the about article. Everything is working fine. Thanks for a great template!

Re: Widescreen, a photoblog template

Hi ib —

That sounds weird. First, make sure one of those articles is titled “about” and it has the most recent post date (I apparently forgot to put that in the readme).

If that doesn’t fix things, can you post a link to your site so I can see what’s happening? Thanks!

Hi,

i found a bug/feature in your template:
when you upload an non-.jpg image the link on the pages wont work,
“thinking” images would end with .jpg.

took some time to figure that out :D

thx for your work,

Re: Widescreen, a photoblog template

Fair enough, that’s something to change if possible (not sure how I’d do it though, given that everything relies on image IDs).

But what are you looking to upload? GIFs are not ideal for photographs, and while PNGs are in theory the successor to JPGs, in practice they have inconsistent browser support and wonky color profile issues.

Re: Widescreen, a photoblog template

James:
I want integrate a thumbnail (showing the last pic) from my photoblog to my blog.

How can i do this?

Ps.
In your DO-TO List:
RSS feed includes title and caption, but not the image itself (due to the use of a custom field).

I use Feedburner to manage my feeds and i can see thumbnails here (and works fine)

I put in the Excerpt (down full article body ) for this:
<img src=“http://yourphotoblog.com/images/ID-Image+t.jpg” alt=“Title or whatever you want” border=“0” style=“0px 5px 5px 0px; float:left” />
—-And the content——
The images description . .

Re: Widescreen, a photoblog template

Hi Kuro,

Thanks for the tip about Feedburner. I should also point out that the latest version of the tru_tags plugin allows you to customize the RSS feed, and therefore include images that are posted with Widescreen. I’ll get that all set up in the next version of Widescreen, whenever that happens….

As for your question, I’m not sure. It looks like you’re using two installations of textpattern: one for the blog, and one for the photoblog. Since there’s no obvious way to get them to talk to each other, I think you’d have to use the RSS feed of the photoblog to syndicate the latest article and publish it to your blog. Check out Feed Digest for turning an RSS feed into embedded HTML.

Re: Widescreen, a photoblog template

hmm, im using php 4.3.9 and im having error msg of having security related risks.
im told to turn off register_globals, and i assume it’s in the .htaccess file?

there’s this line that goes ‘#php_value register_globals 0’

so how do i turn if off? just by uncommenting it?

Re: Widescreen, a photoblog template

Does this design work in the latest version of textpattern? Cause mine is all borked up…

Special Order 937: “Nostromo Rerouted To New Coordinates. Investigate Life Form. Gather Specimen. Priority One. Insure Return Of Organism For Analysis. All Other Considerations Secondary. Crew Expendable.”

Re: Widescreen, a photoblog template

James,
thank you,
Widescreen is beautiful and I seem to have gotten it to work as it was meant to be. Although I would like tot tweak it some more, for example increase the fontsize.

Can’t wait!

I have another question, maybe this is even a feature request. One of my uploaded pictures is too big for the widescreen: www.rolograaf.nl/fotoblog/Phoebe

Is there maybe a solution possible that on a certain area of the box while hovering over, the box disappears so you can see the complete picture underneath?

Thanks again

Re: Widescreen, a photoblog template

Is there any way to have a post without a photo? I know that The point of the layout is to post photos, but would it be possible to have a post where the space taken up by a photo is filled with the text of the post instead?

Re: Widescreen, a photoblog template

Wow this is a beautiful template. Something i would love to use as my design for my photography site.
I currently have this setup on my lab site for testing. I have managed to get it pretty much going thanks to your documentation. One irk i have is the comment box overlapping the top menu as seen in this image.

Re: Widescreen, a photoblog template

lexfor — You could probably create a special form for text-only posts and use Textpattern’s “form override” each time you posted it. I’ll consider incorporating that for the next version of Widescreen.

eyePixels — I think you’re getting that overlap because of the tag errors being produced by the plugin (it doesn’t happen on your individual photo pages). Maybe something’s not quite right with the tru_tags plugin?
