Problem solved!

The TXP manual was a little ambiguous to me, so I assumed – mistakenly – that the freelance privilege included the right to edit (and publish) already published articles, as the owner of such articles. This isn’t the case.

The problem is easily dealt with by granting the users staff writer privs, or editing admin_config.php, just like Colak and Andrew correctly suggest. :-)
