Re: gbp_permanent_links

Hmm… I must have missed an important step here — I just installed both plugins, now what? Should my article links be permanent now? Does my default TXP archive method need to be clean or messy? Eitherway I get a 404

Have you activated the plugins? Have you made a custom permanent link rule? You’ll see a new tab called ‘Permanent Links’ has been created the the Admin section of the Textpattern’s interface.

You can build rules from this tab. You can even have more than one rule, and define conditions on each rule so they are only used for certain sections/categories etc.

The default TXP archive method/permlink mode can be set to anything. Your custom rules will get used automatically.

Let me know if you run into any more trouble. And if you still get a 404 please could you send me some debugging info as described here.

Re: gbp_permanent_links

Yep, activated and installed both plugins, I played around with permanent link rules but I left it as default and tried to get it to work

Here’s the site http://www.battleequip.com/

When I change and edit permanent link rules and refresh the site, my changes are reflected in the link, yet when I click on them I get a 404 — I have not touched Conditions or Destinations tabs. I set TXP to Debug mode and here is what was outputted: Download

Re: gbp_permanent_links

hi graeme, i’ve already asked you on the IM about this but i thought i should make it public so that it isnt lost or forgotten.
i wonder if it could be a possible feature of gbp_permanent_links to do this:

moving an article from one section to another while still keeping the link intact, in other words: checking if the article is found under a given URL and if not look for it in another location, if it matches bring up the article in the new section, if not -> 404.

i don’t know if that makes sense or if it is even possible but i thought it couldnt hurt to ask here :)

Re: gbp_permanent_links

The plugin now works for me :-) But I can’t figure out how to use it!

At the mo, I use /title for my permanent link mode.
I want to switch to /section/title plm now that the site has different sections.

How should I create a custom rule so that anyone typing in http://mysite.com/a1 will be redirected to http://mysite.com/oldstuff/a1

I think you can do that by making a rule: plain text / title

make plain text = oldstuff

Under conditions set it to use the section you want to forward from. You might have to make several rules ot cover all your old sections.

Re: gbp_permanent_links

Travis – Thanks, I’ve tried that but when I type in http://mysite.com/a1, that’s what I get. That is better than getting a 404 but I really need to be redirected to http://mysite.com/oldstuff/a1

There seems to be some issues here which I’ll look at very soon.

Re: gbp_permanent_links

Greatest plugin ever. Thank you so much for offering this. I can now stop using a hacked version of TXP to get section/category/title urls !!! :)

Re: gbp_permanent_links

I’m still trying to get my site to work — let me know if I’m doing this right…

I did a basic of install of TXP w/ messy URLs, I didn’t change any of the prefs. Then I installed and activated both plugins. When I activate them my links change from messy URLs to section / category / links automatically — but when I follow the links they are 404 errors.

I saved the permanent link rule w/ a name of default w/ precedence 0 to no effect. What am I doing wrong / missing?

Re: gbp_permanent_links

Hi Graeme.

I think I have found a little issue between your plug-in and pap_contact_cleaner (an add-on for zem_contact_reborn to prevent SPAM) that isn’t affecting the sending of e-mails thru contact forms, but that is, (in someway and combined with the other variables) preventing the Postmaster plug-in to add the subscriber to the database.

You can take a look at my post explainin the problem.

Thanks in advance.
