The id=1 image was most likely deleted at some point. Your problem has nothing to do with permissions; if it did, other images wouldn’t work properly.

zem – alex,
checking the images table in phpMyAdmin i found now, that the row for id=1 was completely gone, which had happened obviously, when i replaced the image in content->images before.
i manually put in a row with all the information for id=1 now, and it works again.
problem fixed.
just found it weird, that this happens, especially becuase i couldn’t find an older thread dealing with such incongruencies before.
