Maybe I’ve missed the point of all this then after all. I thought maybe we could use the new functionality to cross-post stuff to Flickr, multiple blogs etc simultaneously from TXP using the RPC stuff rather than just use the RPC as a desktop-oriented thing.

I guess I was just expecting the same level of amazement that I normally get when a new release of TXP arrives…!

You can do that. You can also post locally. Basically, RPC is about allowing different languages and operating systems on different servers to interoperate. There are lots of possibilities. But the way that XML-RPC works, it’s supposed to look seamless and easy, so you’re not even supposed to realize that these things are difficult to begin with.

Basically, in an ideal situation, someone’s supposed to point at something and go, “XML-RPC helped me do that.” And their audience should respond, “so? Why is that cool?”

This XML RPC thingamajiggy also took me a while to figure out. Once of the main problems was that I was googling for XML RPC clients. I eventually figured out that I need to search for “desktop blogging clients” instead.

Man…when this xml-rpc thing was announced, I let out a big yawn because I had no idea what it meant and wasn’t curious enough to look it up. Eventually I started researching it and was slightly intrigued. Then I found Performancing, installed it in Firefox and NOW I’m excited. This is really cool.

So, to whoever created this, my hat is off to you (or you all, as the case may be). This is very nice stuff.

Not sure what you mean by settings in Firefox. I didn’t have to change anything in Firefox – I just installed the Performancing extension (of course, this was after I installed the xml-rpc thing on my server). I followed the client installation instructions that you can click on when you download the xml-rpc add-on. Let me know if I’m missing something and I’ll try to help.

Aren’t there any security problems? When I tell Performancing the logins to all my blogs and passwords and user names for the different ftp-accounts, where is this information stored?

..asks an insecure newbie, who couldn’t find this information on Performancing’s homepage.
