Re: "New article" button

Now the problem starts: He overwrites the title, the body and the excerpt and hits “save” again

I agree that it’s not intuitive, but overwriting an existing article? That’d happen if you weren’t paying attention. Forms have a “create new” link (and I want to see this for pages as well), so it wouldn’t be a foreign idea for the write tab too.

Re: "New article" button

I think this is a real problem for new users or even some experienced users. But a “new article” button just looks out of place in current admin interface. I propose to use a little bit javascript: in editing mode, let’s make the default title to be pure text rather than input field , and put an “edit title” link as the switch to input field. Hopefully by this people will be reminded she/he is editing an article.

Another thing is we could add “ title=‘write a new article’ “ into the write tab.

Re: "New article" button

The first won’t happen, that’s a bad ui choice that would be even more frustrating to use.

Re: "New article" button

The only thing I see with the Create new link is that a new user may type up their article and click the link thinking it’s like a save button.

Re: "New article" button

If this problem only really surfaces once one has written an article and wants to “write a new article”, how about putting the link to a fresh write tab in the “article published message” that appears once you’ve saved the message?

doesn’t clog or confuse the interface and pops up exactly when you need it…
