Re: Improving TXP Image Management

Marios,
Some of this could be handled, not by creating multiple images, but by having a better img tag.

ie:
<code>
<txp:img type=“thumb” width=” 50%” height=“50%” link=“1” />
</code>

(just an example) I believe Hakjoon may be working on some prototypes? These are suggestions that have been brought up before, but I believe are really good ones. Thanks for reiterating the need.

:)

Re: Improving TXP Image Management

Alexandra has mentioned that she may be interested in working out a “write up” of the ideas and needs of a new system, and the problems/limitations of the current system

Yes i still think this is a quite good idea: summing up what has been mentioned by now in this loooong thread :) and which features are needed to improve txp img handling. If people are interested in coding a better image handling a kind of draft for the devs would make great sense, wouldn´t it? Makes coding easier.
I am in for that.

Bastian could be of great help for coding. He is very into txp and image handling. Right now he is pretty busy with his sites Reboot on May, 1st… but maybe later he joins and codes a part of what is needed.

@thanks Matthew, for your email. Hope i did answer it here. always nice to hear form you. have a great weekend yourself :)

Re: Improving TXP Image Management

Alex,
Sounds good to me :) I’ll ask Hak, what he is up to as well, and see if there might be any work done on the txp img tag prototypes. The work at the wiki is some of the most helpful stuff.

yep. answered my question. What needs to happen to start the write up? An inventory of all ideas and needs. Level of need. Etc.? Just waking up, my brain’s foggy.

Happy Saturday all.

Matthew

Re: Improving TXP Image Management

One more thing, for the developersupport, @alexandra, maybe you could consider to put up a donation page with a paypal link (for all devs workin on image handling support), I think that people would be willing to donate beforehand.

regards, marios

Exactly. That is what i was thinking of. First step would be an inventory of suggested improvements. Maybe not all single suggestions but the main ones. Second step can be a draft for programmers. We can write this in the Wiki. If you agree, set up a page and send me the link. I am not familiar with the wiki (language) yet.

@Marios – i wholeheartedly agree with the donation. I even would go much further and kind of ‘sell’ the new txp version. My idea is a Drop Cash /Ransome solution: new version will be released once xxx US$ are collected. From the money coders and supporters should be paid. What you think?

Re: Improving TXP Image Management

@alexanra ,I think Dropcash is ok, but then you have to set a limit, that can sometimes have disappointing results,
and not everyone is so familiar with it.

Re: Improving TXP Image Management

Nils: I’d suggest that whether its like Adobe Bridge or not is not really the point, or an objective, especially if we are looking to a ‘txp style’. Although its certainly useful to identify the good ideas in that kind of interface, because its custom-designed for efficient image management – which, I think we all agree, txp isn’t.

I’m slightly alarmed to see this suddenly become a topic for SVN and the txp core…..not because its not a good idea in itself, but because

a) much of the work has already been done for a good plug in and
b) it could take much longer to organise and build if this happens, because it brings in unreliable variables and uncertainties like who is available to do what, and when.

Re: Improving TXP Image Management

Jameslomax,
i was thinking that it was clear from the beginning, that this has been a ‘core’ project, and while plugins are great, the idea of having this core has been the premise of the project (core being the most effecient for many reasons).

The topic has not turned, it originated, though perhaps not clearly enough, in the land of ‘core’

Re: Improving TXP Image Management

@Marios – so far the image improvement is really good i am convinced drop cash will work. My experience with donations are not the best. If you ask for donations, everybody thinks someone else did donate and he/she gets away with no donation.
As well i am convinced programmers should be paid for good work. and it is an incentive to get something like US$ 300.

However first we have to write a draft for potential programmers…

Re: Improving TXP Image Management

Sucks when you forget to subscribe to a thread and check it a week later.

Skubidu

Thanks for your sketches. So am I right when I say you like to have a more Adobe Bridge like style?

Well something along those lines. For instance I have a friends site that has over 400 images on it with more weekly. It has become learly imposible to manage it effectively once it was over 200. The multi-image view would allow for easier tracking of what is there, and multiple image deletion in one fell swoop is a must.

Plugin or Core:

This has got to be in the core release at some point and I would really gear it towards that. It could well be released as a “hack” or plugin until that day comes.

Who can help?

I can do whatever I can do. Not sure what that is, but typically I have 2hrs a week I could offer. Whether it’s with testing ( I have a test install I keep on txd and one I keep on dreamhost) Or whether it’s css & xhtml.

Jamie

Re: Improving TXP Image Management

I can help if you can think of something I could use my design/css/html/writing skills for. Not much help other than that.
