CAnyone help with what i suspects an easy one?!

Hi there,

Im sure this has been posted before and i know how annoying it is when you belong to a forum where you visit regularly and people always ask the same questions without looking for themselves but this one i cant work out.

Basically ive installed textpattern on my mac. I have mamp installed and ive put textpattern in my htdocs folder which i assume is correct (?) Im now trying to get to the installation page. Heres where im having trouble.

Ive just switched to mac but when i was on windows i started to install textpattern with wamp. I got to the install pages by going http://localhost followed by the extension to where text pattern was kept.

Now on my mac i cant work it out. Could anyone tell me what extension i need to put in the addrss bar to get tp that setup page? i it something like http://localhost8888/applications/textpattern/index.php?

Ive got textpattern in my htdocs folder in mamp which is in applications. Any Ideas?

thanks for any help

Could be a missing colon – see below.

http://localhost:8888/applications/textpattern/index.php?

http://localhost/subdirectory/textpattern/setup/ , What are you seeing when you try to access the setup directory?

did you try?
http://localhost8888/<u>(folder textpattern is in – remember it has to be in the htdocs)</u>/textpattern/index.php

Re: CAnyone help with what i suspects an easy one?!

Hi there

when i try http://localhost/subdirectory/textpattern/setup/ i get cant open page becuase safari cant find server ‘localhost’. my localhost servers are swithced on.

All i want is the setup page. Im asuming i need to load the index.php page in the textpattern folder to get to this. Is this correct?

Basically to get to this folder i go applications then mamp then htdocs then textpattern then index

so ive been doing http://localhost/applications/mamp/htdocs/textpattern/index.php?

Do i need to include user and james (my user name) inbetween localhost and applications at all?

My version of <del>Safari</del> Explorer won’t access my Localhost install either, Firefox will and so will Opera. It may have to do with port settings, but I have never taken the time to sort out why. If you have a Firefox browser you might give it a try and see if it will work with that.

The first step here is getting localhost to display properly. Make sure your server is on.

http://localhost:8888/

Re: CAnyone help with what i suspects an easy one?!

Hi mary,

Right ive got the localhost working fine as far as i can tell. I eg tindex of come up then my textpattern folder, cauz thats the only folder in the htdocs folder

Now it says
config.php is not ok or not found. If you would like to install, go to [/subdir]/textpattern/setup/

so ive tried this http://localhost:8888/textpattern/setup but this doesnt work

sorry if i appear dumb but ive never messed about with localhosts and the like before!

Please do not say that something “doesn’t work”. That does not give us anywhere enough information to be able to diagnose the problem. We don’t need to know that it “doesn’t work”; we need to know what happens.

Re: CAnyone help with what i suspects an easy one?!

oh sorry kurt, didnt mean to be non-specific.

This error message is thrown up when i put http://localhost:8888/textpattern/setup

config.php is not ok or not found. If you would like to install, go to subdir/textpattern/setup

Any ideas?

Re: CAnyone help with what i suspects an easy one?!

Ok, so when you go to localhost, do you see:

  • files
  • images
  • textpattern
  • .htaccess
  • index.php
  • HISTORY.txt
  • README.txt

or, do you see

  • textpattern

?
