Also NetVirtue for the last 5 years or so; many of my clients use them too.

No issues to date, excellent support.

Non-affiliate Link: Choose Your Hosting Plan

I am helping a gallery with their site which is hosted on Dreamhost There are issues with updating the defaut page in Textpattern which fails to save to the DH server. And if we login to dreanhost and make the changes within the Theme folder the change seems to take place, but we beleive it doesn’t as what we see back in Textpattern does not reflect the change. Strange

  1. do you, after updating the files on disk (in the Themes folder) update the Textpattern internal/DB copy: Themes panel, check the active theme, then from the multi-edit dropdown at the bottom, Update from the disk ? Textpattern does not do it automatically.
  2. make sure the panel files are not cached by the browser (those are every year a little more aggressive in caching pages + JS processing). Option or Shift + reload once or twice should do.

That works for me on DH.

I will +1 Guru, they’re my go-to for clients in the mid-tier spending category. The email sync tool is useful, as are their migrations team.

…and I’m done with Guru. I set up a client with web + email on their shared hosting, having never used their email service before, and what a mess. Weird routing, non-delivery for perfectly valid emails from perfectly valid servers…maybe I’m just spoiled with the flexibility of a VPS, but I’m not touching them again.

Want to add a domain to your shared hosting account? Sure thing! You’ll need to make a subdomain of your primary domain, and that’s non-negotiable. Huh? I don’t want www.example.org.example.com to be in my DNS, how is that even helpful?

Also, eff cPanel and WHM. How in the blazes do normal people use this junk?

Maybe relevant. Some other names are mentioned in the thread, I think.

Re: Who Does Your Textpattern Hosting?: July 2021 Edition

I am searching for a new hosting service for my image heavy sites.

My current service offers 95 GB max bandwidth a month, disk usage of 40 GB, unlimited emails and domains, free SSL, free backups, and the ability to use Cloudflare for shared hosting. I really need more bandwidth, but otherwise the above is fine.

This thread dates from 2021 and seems partly outdated. Are there any hosting companies that you recommend today?

What’s your current price point on the above service? Where is the datacenter located country-wise?

$898.20 for three years, so $24.95 per month. Although it is an American company, the company operates 11 datacenters worldwide. My site is hosted in Japan.

Re: Who Does Your Textpattern Hosting?: July 2021 Edition

Dreamhost has a comparable VPN plan at $24.99/month for 3 years with a sizable discount for the first 3 years.

Basics

  • 60GB NVMe SSD Storage
  • Unmetred bandwidth
  • Unlimited websites, subdomains, and email addresses
  • etc

Their support is fine, and they also have an AI assistant which can quickly answer most of the questions (although you may have to push it sometimes).

What I do miss from them is the online real time assistance by a real person. Now, it is email based.

Thank you, Yiannis. I will check them out. I already noticed that they are still independent, which is really important these days.

My current hosting service does have live chat with a real support person, but over the last year or two I have rarely found it helpful. Recently, I used their ticketing system and was surprised by the excellent assistance I received. But I don’t know if I just got lucky to to get connected with a very responsible person.

Thank you!

I just visited the site. It looks a bit intimidating to a non-developer like myself…
