[howto] Discuss closing this forum and moving all relevant posts to TextBook
I posted here some time back about the “How to” forum being closed to new posts and was given an answer to the effect that Textbook was the correct place to put these types of post. Fair enough I thought. I now see over the past few weeks that 2 new posts have been added to the forum, yet as far as I can see it is still closed to the likes of me and no doubt many others.
I think you should make your minds up. Either it is open to ALL or it is closed to ALL. No special privileges.

Re: [howto] Discuss closing this forum and moving all relevant posts to TextBook
I recently moved a post there. I realize now, seeing that the newly added topics all are from moderators, that only moderators can post there. I agree it can be confusing, so maybe it’s better to close that forum for moderators also? If Textbook’s move from MediaWiki to whatever is completed, it probably will be much easier for everyone to add how-tos there, so the How-to forum won’t be needed then anyway.

Fair enough, though I still think that the “How to” forum is far more accessible here particularly to new users and anyone doing a search of the forum.

I agree with you Stuart. I also believe that the forum should stay and open to all. Most txp users come here to learn. The rest of the sites are great and I have many bookmarks in the txpbook but this forum is where everything starts.

They are moved there so they are not completely lost. I’m still looking for help to migrate stuff to the WIKI.

I can help as long as you don’t need it to be done yesterday ;) I don’t have much spare time but I reckon I could move a couple of posts now and then. Just give me some instructions :)

Cool.
- Find a topic in that forum to “promote”.
- Make a link to it here in an appropriate spot, and save the page.
- Once you’ve done that, when you click the link you’ll be able to create the page itself.
- Copy away.
- Once it is completely moved over, “Report” the thread, so I can leave a note in it and move it to the Archive.

OK, so I’m going to find myself a login :) But, Mary, if Textbook is going to move from MediaWiki to DokuWiki, why not directly move the posts into the DokuWiki install?

Because the dokuwiki install doesn’t exist yet :)
I’m going to try and get it setup this weekend.
