How can I use the excerpt tag to only have the beginning excerpts of the post show up on the front page with a little link that says “Click to read more” underneath each one?

Doh!
Well, <txp:excerpt /> doesn’t seem to be working at all. It just outputs blank. The permlink works fine, though.
(I used method 1)
