gausdal-hk.net - Gausdal Handball Club

Client:
Gausdal Håndballklubb, a Norwegian handball club.
http://www.gausdal-hk.net/

Textpattern is my favorite light-weight CMS and I’m very happy with it. When a former client aproached me and told me they had to get the website updated, I decided it was time to use Textpattern for the task. Their previous website was a made using a backend from hell, and the front end didn’t look very pleasing either. I also had to account for numerous categories and content tributers.

The result? A face lift, valid XHTML and a more stable publishing system.

Plugins used

  • ajw_admin_workflow lets the administrator change the owner of articles.
  • bos_image_display with some tweaking — category aware gallery that opens the right pictures.. not the front page
  • cbs_category_list with some more tweaking — section and image aware category lister – I use it to get the /?c= . Also used to make the team lists.
  • fel_pickimage is my own plugin, based on the bos_image_display but that is alot smaller. It picks the last few images uploaded. It disregards categories (well, category not like ‘nolist’), shows only thumbnails and links to original image.
  • glx_admin_image_resize lets the users get an easy way to resize and rotate images they upload
  • rss_admin_db_manager makes it easy for the client to take backups
  • rss_admin_show_adv_opts for quick access to the advanced settings
  • upm_textile_toggle turns the textile off on the excerpt field.
  • (not a plugin) — Google Maps for directions
The handball club has three different channels of news.
  1. General news
  2. News particulary for the people working/volunt. for the club
  3. Messages to players/teams
Finding a good way to seperate these three layers wasn’t too hard.. it was just a matter of making seperate sections… but what about the teams…? Should they be a section, a category? Finding a good way to seperate the teams and still be able to pull out the data meant that I had to do some plugin/TXP trickery (no hacks). I ended up having three different states for the team section::

Feel free to leave any comments or questions you have. It’s a Norwegian website, but I’m sure you’ll be able to figure out how you navigate.
