Include custom fields in site searches?

I’m hoping to maintain a booklist as part of my weblog, to keep tracks of the books I’ve read and brief reviews. I’m using custom fields for both ISBNs and author names, but I’d like both—especially author names—to turn up in a site-wide search. Is there any way to tip the search engine onto those fields?
