Change the Permanent Link type in a section
I have repeating events, and some with the same name, so the URL ends up being the exact same for both events since, right now, i’m using /section/title/ as my Perma link type.
Is there a way, or a plug-in, that would allow me to change that for a specific section? Or if that’s not possible maybe there’s a plug-in out there that would automatically change the url title if one is already taken. For example if i have one /Events/Superbowl-Party/ if i added another it would automatically change it to /Events/Superbowl-Party-2/ or something like that.

It does already do that in the URL-only title under “Advanced Options” on the article editing page. Should throw a warning at you as well when you use the same title.

When i post an article with the same title it just says “Article posted (The same URL-only title is used by 2 different articles)” but it doesn’t actually give me an error. So now when i try to click on the new event with the same name it goes back to the first one. See the upper right ‘events’ box on this page Is there an easy way to fix this without changing the perma link type to include the article ID?
If this was my site i would just change the url address under advanced prefs, but i don’t wanna a normal user to have to do that for repeat events. That step would just confuse people i think.

Well it’s just a warning rather than an error but the URL-only thing should be automatic. Were these articles imported?

Mmm. I just tried it myself and get the warning but it hasn’t changed the URL-only title. I was sure it did that but I haven’t used identical titles for some time. Maybe the behaviour has been changed. Or maybe my memory is playing tricks. I won’t suggest which is more likely. ;)

LOL… well it’s okay, i won’t hold it against you.
So do you have any thoughts on how i could keep them from repeating? I’m just trying to figure out anything so i can avoid having to change the perma links to /section/id/title/

You know I’m sure it used to do this. I can remember having a couple of titles where it had added a 2 to the end of the URL-only title. I was under the impression that was one of the major points for having the field. I’m going to drop a question into the Bug forum and see if one of the devs can enlighten us. They may have changed the behaviour for some reason or it could be an unspotted bug. Then again….. ;)
