Categories and sections, please help, I'm desperate
OK, I’m losing it, I need to tell certain categories to “belong” to certain sections, is that even possible? Because I have chosen to go with this kind of structure:
(sectiond are in uppercase)
RECIPES
-cat1
—subcat1
—subcat2
-cat2
—subcat2
—subcat2
and so on, I have told the subcats to belong to their parent categories respectfully.
This kind of seems logical to me, because I want this kind of URLs:
http://mysite.com/recipes/article-name-here or something like that.
Or will I need the “cat1“s to be setcions themselves, so I end up with a whole bunch of sections?
I am really confused, I admit it, I have never truly understood this part of TXP and have never used it to run a multiple sectioned website. :(

I don’t if this will help, but this plugin might be useful for your structure:

When writing an article you select the category(ies) and then you can also select a section in the same page

I have just looked over that plugin, it seems really really good, something I have been waiting for a long time, but I would rather rely on TXP’s native functionality if possible in this case. If not, I’ll give plugins a try.

I think the plugin would be your best bet, honestly. I haven’t used that plugin in particular, but Textpattern natively considers sections and categories to be two different and equal organizational tools. Because of that, I don’t think there’s an out-of-the-box way to make categories section-dependent; it’s too contrary to how things are “supposed to” work.

yes, I came to the same conclusion, it just coflicts with my “logical” concept that there are sections which are greater than categories, which are greater than subcategories (subcategories=categories that we make parents for). It seems that I’ll be using that excellent plugin then.
I’d like to make this still open for suggestions in case someone would like to propose a solution.
Thanx so far Elenita. :)
