recent photos section?

Possible to use one of the image gallery scripts and then put a “recent photos” area on the homepage? Like if I wanted to display on the homepage the last 4 pictures added to the image gallery, is that possible?

Re: recent photos section?

Assuming the gallery script is in PHP, it’s possible. It may not be easy or pretty, but it’s <em>possible</em>.

See <a href=“http://textpattern.com/faq/34/how-do-i-use-php-code”>FAQ</a>.

See <a href=“http://textpattern.com/faq/34/how-do-i-use-php-code”>FAQ</a>.

Dang! I definitely wasn’t looking to hear that it would “not be easy”. lol.

I’ll check the FAQ, but if it’s got to do with PHP then it’s not for me…right now anyway. I’m no programmer.

Re: recent photos section?

Who knows? It might be easy and pretty, but that’s more a function of the other sotware’s code than anything else.

Is there some reason you’re relying on an external gallery script instead of using Textpattern to handle your images? Because it’s the integration that’s the tough part. Unless it’s Flickr; there are plenty of solutions for that.

Alternatively, if your gallery has RSS feeds that display thumbnails, you could probably find a way to pull the images from those using <a href=“http://magpierss.sourceforge.net”>Magpie RSS</a>.

Uhhhh, don’t have an answer for you on why I’m looking for an external gallery script. :-) Maybe I need to read up on the FAQ better to actually see what features txp has for images. Really I’m just looking to have one section of a site called “pictures” which just is a bunch of thumbnails which are clickable to take you to the full size pic, and then have like a small area on the homepage display like the last 4 pictures added to the “pictures” section as thumbnails. Seems simple enough, but I know what seems simple sometimes isn’t. Maybe I can do what I want with textpatterns image handling ability?

I’m really not familiar at all with all of the RSS stuff, so the second half of your comment honestly went right over my head. I am not familar with using RSS at all.

Thanks again for the reply. :-)
